Please note, I first published this simple guide on a local community website www.whirlpool.net.au.
Use DU Meter and then go to a mirror site and download as many ISO images at once as you can...
I am getting my ISO's for this example from:
Optus Mirror http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/im/extlink.gif
I have a registered version of DU Meter, but you can download a trial:
DU Meter Website http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/im/extlink.gif
I have a 9.4 Mbit connection to ADSL2+ right now, and it is not through Optus. Ping test is as follows, in summary:
Pinging mirror.optusnet.com.au [211.29.132.173] with
Reply from 211.29.132.173: bytes=32 time=30ms TTL=58
I then began downloading 12 x ISO images similtaneously. The DU Meter displays throughput and other network connection information in the form of a graph and either as kbps or kB per second or mbps, my results for just over 10 seconds are:
http://img76.imageshack.us/img76/149...1006001kg4.png
Start time: 29/10/2006 1:42:48 AM
Stop time: 29/10/2006 1:42:58 AM
Elapsed: 00:00:10.7
Data Transfer Download Upload
---------------------------------- -- ---------------- ----------------
Total data transferred 10.65 MB 0.27 MB
Maximum transfer rate 9.36 mbps 0.25 mbps
Average transfer rate 8.93 mbps 0.23 mbps
In conclusion, If YOU REALLY must test your connection, this is the most practical method. Obviously you dont download the entire ISOs unsless you want them.
*** JUST DONT DO YOUR HEAD IN TRYING TO GET 24,0000 kbps -- chances are you will not use it all at once & if you do, my guess is your Download limit will disappear within a day or two. -- REMEMBER what so many before have said... 'As fast as the line can handle! ***
