I keep hearing that the new design is way too girly. Maybe it's the purple, who knows. You see, going back to the original design that we had, there was dark blue, light blue, and a little touch of purple. Here was my reasoning.
Basically, the name DaniWeb is not a good reflection of what the site is all about. Therefore, I thought that by adding two shades of techie blue to the design would be a good reflection on the site - a quick way for new visitors to see, "ooh, this site is techie related." But then I didn't want to be just another blue techie site. So I added a hint of purple to make that unique.
Well it did just that - purple became our signature. Therefore, when I redesigned the site, I figured that we should add more purple since that was the color we were known for. At the same time, it was safe to bring down the amount of blues we had, since we already have a strong following, and it's pretty obvious we're a tech site.
So that's just what I did. Until I realized that too much purple isn't always a good thing. Does it really look girly? So, you see, that's why I replaced the purple table headings with blue ones. Brings a little more navy blue down into the page. Whatcha think? The good? The bad? The ugly?

I've just signed up today and the first think that crossed my mind is that the navigation is unique to most vB boards. It took me 2minutes to find out my UserCP on the page. There's just so much content everywhere it's almost overbearing and confusing. Also as a registered member who was just logged out I was looking for a login box, not a login link at the top

I think I speak for everyone that matters when I say: Get over it. The design is better than what we had before, and in the end it's the content of the forums that counts, not the pretty pictures.
Sure, it's a little girly. But that's a good thing. It'll keep annoying macho guys from spamming their neanderthal comments (like "It's too girly!"
) all over the place.

The purple is fine, and definitely not girly. Stick with it!

As long as it's just purple, it's all cool. But if you start putting rainbows in the corner, i'm outta here.

Blues are boring! Bring on the purple! Purple - Gay pride! Its time some of these techies were dragged out of gray/blue boring 80'/90's into the cool sleak purple millenia

I don't think it looks "too" girly, but it does definitely have a feminine feel to it.
I personally am happy about the redesign because every time I came to the site with the old layout, it felt like a bit of a train wreck. Like stuff just thrown everywhere with no real coherent organization (sorry, that's was just my gut reaction from the old design)
Now everything looks clean and put in its proper place with room for growth

How is purple girly? It's the color of royalty. Now pink, that would be girly.

Hmmm... I knew something was different but I couldn't quite figure out what. Must have been the purple. Anyway, I think it looks good, but, of course, I live in a weird place where pink is a symbol of manliness... long story. Not my idea.
