Just noticed that you no longer need an invite to register for gmail. It's now hooked up to "google accounts" - sorta like a Microsoft Passport. Strange though that it shares a login with Google News and the Google API, and yet not with AdSense and AdWords. AdSense and AdWords, meanwhile, are capable of sharing accounts with each other.
