Here's an interesting one for anyone involved in an online trading community. There are increasing moves afoot to make the communities themselves, whether we're talking about eBay, Amazon's second hand scheme or whatever we're thinking about, responsible for what they sell.

In other words, if someone sells a fake Rolex watch on eBay, eBay could be held liable. (Speaking as someone who's only ever going to be able to afford a fake Rolex and probably not even that, I'm a little ambivalent over this).

Now step back and think about it. You're running a business like eBay - check. You suspect there might be some forgeries around - check, it's almost inevitable. But what do you do about it? You've already put in a disclaimer asking everyone to trade honestly but under new proposals this might not be enough.

Anyone with any ideas on how a proposal like this can possibly work without making eBay come round to everybody's house and inspect every item they're selling, please form an orderly line right here...
