The country of Myanmar has banned google from their internet users. Internet users in the country have reported that they have been receiving "ACCESS DENIED" from Google and their email service Gmail for more than a week.
When Bagan Cybertech, the country's only Internet Service Provider, was reached for comment they did confirm that both Google and Gmail are inaccessible but did not comment further. The country has a very strict military government and wants to monitor what information comes in and out of the country. This is not the first time they have banned a website service Yahoo and Hotmail are part of several others already under a ban.
Now what worries me about this is that this isnt that far off of an idea to happen in this country. I mean net neutrality and NSA wiretaps are pretty close to not being able to access the internet. Someone needs to pass legislation that can ensure the freedom of the internet because just like everything else companies are just going to keep pushing and pushing net neutrality until it gets passed. I think this is a push in the exact opposite way most people are looking at the internet today with the advent of freemedia like podcasting and blogging . The wiretaps are the same thing, people say if you aren't a terrorist than you have nothing to hide which is not true. This is setting a precedent for being able to monitor people's internet use without having a warrant of any kind and all we have to do is wait for the person to get arrested due to NSA wiretaps and who has no affiliation with terrorism , but mentioned some other illegal activity over aim or searched for something on google that was illegal.
