While eating dinner tonight I decided to watch a little TV, good old history channel in fact. As luck would have it I caught a show on security systems, which was followed by a show on art theft. The security show was quite interesting as it ranged from pyramids and ancient wooden key door locks to modern biometrics and ISO-17799, but it was the art theft show that really got me thinking for a moment.

The show discussed state funded art theft by Napoleon and Hitler, yet it made no mention of oh... The British Museum. Granted the Brits prolly feel justified in stealing nearly everything good from the Parthenon in the name of civilization. Obviously a race with democratic government thousands of years before Henry VIII was knocking up and beheading everyone he could get his fat little fingers on has no clue how to manage its own artifacts of historical significance. heh.

This aside from all the treasures and art stolen from Asia, Africa, India, Rome, the Americas, hell... I wouldn't be surprised if the Irish Crown Jewels (stolen in 1907) are in a back room there somewhere.

The answer became clear when I discovered that the show was made under the BBC... gee surprise surprise.

There really needs to be a collection of ISO style standards regarding media, I think that would be very useful, so you can not only determine the offensiveness of a show by the rating, but also how standards compliant it is.
