Do you know why Microsoft is putting so much security into Vista? I mean, have you just taken a look at only the tip of the Iceberg:
1. SDL(Security development Lifecycle), Secure by Design, Secure by default, Secure in Deployment. Every line of code in Vista is carefully inspected for any hidden flaws. Thus the lengthy development time.
2. Prevents modification to the Operating System by unauthorized party(Software, people, etc)
3. IE runs in a low privilege mode, thus, any scripts cannot make wide modifications to the Core OS.
The list of security improvements to Vista is very long and can be found on the website of Windows Vista. However, this is not the main aim of this post. My question is what forced Microsoft to put so much security. You should be saying that it is because of Viruses and other malwares. Well you are partially right, but this is not all. Viruses have been here ever since Windows 98.
What Microsoft has been trying to do since Windows 98 is that they were just trying to prevent the viruses from doing too great damages on the system. Thus they were not attacking the problem from the source, that is changing the core itself to a more managed code. This is exactly what is happening to Vista and future Windows Operating Systems.
However, there is still more than that. Microsoft Windows (All Versions) is the most widely used Operating System in the World. However, it is also the most widely used Operating System for all the Digital Evils created to-date.
Viruses, malwares, worms are all created on Microsoft Windows and in turn used against other Windows Systems. Terrorists used Microsoft Windows in Order to plan their attacks. Almost all of the digital contents are hacked on Microsoft Windows and distributed widely.
Thus, all kinds of digital evils that exists to date have their roots in Microsoft Windows. This is the price to pay for having “A Windows in every PC”. That is why many people (the NSA, the CIA, FBI and Hollywood) put so much pressure on Microsoft to put so much security into its Operating System.
I do expect that the NSA and the CIA will have codes inside Vista that will allow them to read all the communication taking place on your PC ONLY if it contains certain words:
“Bombs, attacks, Guns, etc”
However, the wolf is already out. How Microsoft will convince more than 90% of all PC Users to use Vista, which is more secured, and uses all kinds of Techniques (UAP, DRM, Managed Code, New Audio Stack, new Media Foundation) to prevent users form doing all kind of evils. Well, the answer is too easy, Aero Glass graphics, eye candy interfaces, and so on.
