div tags mispalced iin different systems

Hi friends

I have a problem. I have a website based on html and css only. It looks fine in my system in all reolutions and all browsers. But when i view it on my friends computer, the div tags are found to be misplaced.

Why does it happen? can any1 help me out

I have done a CSS menu, and it appears to be working fine in all browsers except IE8 (I think)

I have added the meta tag...

but still doesn't work.

Gap between div tags

Hi Everyone,

I have a very simple site layout that I am trying to merge into a shopping cart application.

I have created the layout in Dreamweaver and it looks fine there, but when I preview it in the browser, I get gaps between the 'campaign' banner, the 'body' and the 'footer', can anyone help? Pulling my hair out here!

hi there people, ok so im brand new to this website

- i am doing a degree in programming so have a REALLY rough idea of how java works ( only bin at uni since september )

- i want the table / database copied to my harddrive or some way of viewing how it is making the calculations it is.

CSS formatting

It used to be, that when I would type:

and hit "return", Visual studio would autocorrect to:

as well as a number of other things. That is just the easiest example. It also doesn't automatically indent the next line...

I am using Visual Studio 2008 SP1.

I've looked through Tools>Options and nothing really jumped out at me. I'm sure it's just some kind of pebkac error on my part, so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

change in DPI

Till date I've tested sites/designs by changing my monitor resolutions. A new project just came by, and when the tester changed the DPI, the webpage went wrong. It has been made fully in divs and looks good in different resolutions and browsers.

Can you please suggest what to do? This is the first time I've encountered this DPI issue...

Problem with tables.

I had another problem that I ended up fixing. I was trying to apply a css style to a cell in order to repeat an image as a drop shadow column. It will only work in internet explorer. Ever since doing that, even though I have deleted it, now I get a gap between my footer and the rest of the table. Here is the html:

I need help with a vertical CSS menu. I am interested in a menu that can be found at http://www.cooper.com. It's a vertical menu with sub/sub elements. For example, click on 'Training' and see...

Is that a pure CSS menu? Or any JS involved?
Is it a dropdown menu or called something else? I don't think its dropdown.

Sound rollovers not working in Chrome

Hi All,

hopefully someone can help me out, I'm using the below code to try and play sound and switch image on rollover, works perfectly in IE but intermittently with broken sound on firefox and not at all on chrome(image swap works fine on all)

I've already tried using an object tag and nesting the embed tag within and changing to a separate sound function using document.getElementByID but no luck. With any luck someone has dealt with this before. I've spent the last 2 hours on Google looking for a solution but so far no joy.

Repeating background image not aligning properly

CSS not the same in IE as it is in FireFox

when i view an internal web page i have created in IE it doesnt do the same as it does in FireFox.

I have an iFrame that loads a page by default that page has the two div listed below called to centre the text both vertically and horizontially and it appears that firefox does that as there is a margin around the chart but IE does not instead everything is at the top

Container stops expanding when DIV floats left

I'm having problem getting a container to expand when adding two DIVs that float left. The container would actually just not move behind the DIVs.

If I write text just before the container DIV closes, it expands, but I can't figure out why it's not doing the same with only those two blue DIVs.

Text won't backspace on logon box

I have "copied" the html for a logon screen webpage. It works great and can access the database with the usernames and passwords. However, when entering data for the login, one cannot backspace, if you make an error you must highlight and retype. I believe the code is this is there some way to adjust this/add to it to allow for backspace?

Did some tests and seems all the HTML5 tags / features work pretty well across all modern browsers except in IE6 for whom you have to use a little JS to make it style specific HTML5 elements.

It's easy but still takes quite some time to shape your skills / remember all the tags, etc.. I think I will not adopt it so soon in any foreseeable future as I have yet to discover any substantial benefits it offers.

It's disrupting.

Container div is not expanding to contain side bar

Hi everyone,

I am having trouble getting my container div to expand in height so as to fully contain my submenu div (absolutely positioned on left) within it. Currently, the container expands as text on the page content div (which is absolutely positioned on the right) grows.

When the page content is minimal, and therefore shorter than the submenu, then the container remains shorter than the submenu making it look like the submenu overlaps the footer. (see attached image)

My basic structure is as follows:

No floating divs. No height attributes, except for footer and header.

Anyone have ideas what could be wrong? If it is easier to "diagnose" here are links to the problematic page and the stylesheet.

Two font sizes in one DIV?

I'm making a DIV that has two lines of text which are centered and vertically aligned with line-height to make them appear in the middle.

The problem is that I want the first line of text to have a font of 3.5em, and the second line 1.8em.
I've tried to put the second line in a paragraph with a class, but the font and line height become very large.

What is the proper way to achieve that?

a strange problem with ie

I have made a site and I have tested it on the ie 7 and ie 6 . it seems good and it shows my web site good and without any praoblem ,

Because Basically as you can see from www.gearspro.com/forums that as soon as it is moved in the site looks a bit silly because the banner stays way across the page and the forums keeps reducing in width. I have a div bloc with a height of 100px that wraps two div blocs. One of these wrapped divs has a height of 10px, while the other has no specified height.

My intention is for "box2" (no height specified) to automatically adjust its height to fill up the remaining space in its containing bloc .

I really hope I am posting this in the correct forum area.
I have a html page on my currently existing web site where I sell books over the internet. I need to change this page so that it can do a search on my MySql database that I have already set up. Therefore this page will change to .php.
I found a search somewhere on the internet and changed it to more or less what I think I need and want. But I have run into troubleshooting problems.

Firstly, I am not sure how to implement the search into my html code and secondly, I want to get the search to work so that I can enable my clients to search for books.
I also realize that I will have to create a new .html page (I think it will be .html) to display the results of the search. Each book should have a small picture as well as a description of the book. I have not yet stored the picture anywhere. I think someone said that only the link to the picture should be stored in the database, the picture itself will probably be stored somewhere on my ISP's server under my domain.....? Any help in this regard will also be highly appreciated.

I want my 3 div boxes, added together, to fill the viewport size. Two of the div boxes (#top and #bottom) have a fixed height. I want it so that the #body div automatically adjust it's height so that the sum of the three divs = viewport size.

Columns Not Extending

I know this is a very popular problem and is covered many places on the Internet but I haven't found a clean and clear resolution to it. I have an existing fixed-width template that I've manually coded using floats and the center column doesn't extend far enough on some pages unless I add text or line breaks to make it extend far enough, which I'm unwilling to do. I prefer to leave my template fixed width and using floats unless I there is no clean fix for this.

I have a table inside a div with height=100%(viewport). The also table has height=100%(viewport). However, I want one row to have a fixed height while other adjusts to the content.

Finished a kick ass assignment, checked it on all available browsers on my mac, all good, so I submitted.

Then I was over my misses mate's house and looked at it on windows and there are menu hover issues in Explorer. I have been looking and looking but I can't seem to find a clear fix.

i have downloaded firefox extensions that web designers use them like fireftp-1.0.6-fx.xpi , html_validator-0.8.5.8-fx+mz+sm-win.xpi and css_validator-3.0.0-fx.xpi but I couldn’t install them , it has showed this error that it couldn’t install because of it is not compatible with this version of fire fox . I have installed different versions of firefox like 3.5.2 , 3..5.4 , 3.5.6 .

Different Monitor resolutions changing layout! Help

It looks fine on my macbook, but when I open it on a computer with a different resolution it looks terrible. Everything is out of place.

This is based off a wordpress template that I've customized a bit. This is my first website and I'm pretty much clueless. I know it has something to do with using absolute, relative, or float positioning. Can anyone take a look and give me some hints what is wrong?!

I just spent several hours trying to figure out how to fix my websites appearance in ie7. I've found a solution, but I have no clue why it actually worked. I'm looking for an explanation if anyone has one.

My goal was to have a fixed position div across the top of my website. It would have a solid image centered in it that was the width of the content not the screen. When you scroll the page the text should go underneath the bar. I also wanted the bar centered within the width of the screen (since my site is also centered). That way, if the screen was resized the bar would still be centered over the content.

I tried several css methods to achieve this. What I tried worked in EVERY other browser, but not IE7 (don't ask about IE6, I don't develop for it anymore). Here's what I had:

Ie7 didn't know how to handle 100% width. my bar was always ~200 pixels to the right of where it should have been. With everything I tried the bar didn't budge from its off-center position. I finally decided I just needed to effect it somehow. What finally worked was adding a width that only 1e7 could read:

Note that 1220px is the size of the content container div.

This solution really doesn't make any sense to me. Can anyone help me understand why this worked?

Why font-size is affecting the gap between divs in this example?

As you can see in this test, if you change the font-size in the body section to 0px, it's the only way to bring the divs containing the images together. Could anyone see a solution to this? I can't set the fonts to 0px in the website, and can't understand why is this happening.

I'm testing with Firefox but same is happening in Safari. Haven't tried IE, but it's not really important because I will be using the web only in FF and Safari.

Iframes problem

I got the following problem with my code (which its just an extract):
1. When it loads on Firefox it looks just like I want it to look, everything ordered and in its place, BUT when I visualize the same code on Internet Explorer it shows about half or less of the content of the iframe, and the left columns just appear at a random height...
2. This is a minor thing, but it bothers me a little bit. The border of the tables looks oddly different on internet explorer...

Sso my questions are: How can I fix this? I'm I missing something? What should I change?
I don't want to force all my visitors to download firefox to be able to see my page as I want them to see it...

Basic question about positioning, margins and paddings

Hi all

I want a header to stick to the top of the browser window and left and right to it. (pretty standard, right?)

I have configured the following things for this: (never mind the colors, those ar just for testing purpose.)

But Firefox, IE and Chrome are STILL displaying space between the top of the browser window and the header div. (haven't tested other browsers yet)

CSS Menu Assistance

Hi Everyone,

Having a few issues with my CSS menus that need resolving.

At present you can see how the menus are rendering by browsing to http://www.pccredibility.com.au/. It seems that they are positioning themselves underneath the right location, where they should be dropping down from.

However, the menu items should drop directly down when the mouse hovers over the menu item.

Im pretty sure there is a tag i need to reference within my stylesheet but i cannot remember which one. My stylesheet is located at http://www.pccredibility.com.au/index_files/styles.css

HTML Validation why bother?

I am using Expression Web 2 and need to alter an existing website so as to display nicely on what I regard as a standard display size of 1024 x 768. It would have been better to start from scratch but it's a bit late for that now. I have an error "td tag not closed before this body tag closed". I couldn't find any open tags and decided to sumbit the page to the HTML validator. To cut a long story short it didn't accept the Doctype statement throwing 9 errors.

Just out of curiousity I decided to enter www.microsoft.com into the validator. Is this a record? The validator threw up 296 errors and 31 warnings!

Microsoft seem to be doing all right so why bother should we bother with the HTML validator?

I am trying to create a html-email. I've read that in order to render the html content corectly I have to set the content-type of the mail to text/html but I don't know how. Ho to do all this when writing from a regular email client. I have to declare it in the mail body? Or in the mail header (if so, how do I do it?)? I tried with:

placed in the body of the mail (with the rest of the html code) but it doesn't work. It displays as plain text (displaying all the html tags).

Firefox can finally orient itself, at least in terms of iPhones and MacBooks. Mozilla's latest browser, Firefox 3.6 beta 1, can now talk to accelerometers such as those in many Apple devices, thanks to orientation event objects introduced in the new Gecko 1.9.2 presentation engine at the browser's core. Also among DOM enhancements are drag-and-drop for file transfer and the ability for Web workers to self-terminate.

And that's just the beginning. The download of Firefox 3.6 beta 1 for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows contains thousands of bug fixes, including numerous repairs to CSS image rendering and text alignment.

There also were significant updates to XUL, and separate pages were created to advise extension and plug-in developers of how to update your work. For plug-in developers, you'll need to know that main () is no longer supported as an entry point. There are also some user interface changes and Mac OS X-specific mods, and with Gecko 1.9.2, the old Code Fragment Manager will be officially phased out. For extension developers, the add-on package has been modified, and there are UI and HTML 5 compliance improvements to deal with.

Firefox 3.6 also reportedly supports some aspects of Windows 7, including Aero Peek and taskbar thumbnails (does anyone like these?), but will not support Jump Lists when released later this year.

Is a form the only way you can input data using HTML?

In my searching, I think I know the answer, it seems that any time you want to do input using HTML, it references a form.

Is this also true with buttons?

Does ALL user feed back in HTML require a form?

I am not speaking of Java Script, just HTML.

Problem with larger image than I want

I want to insert in my home page a weather forecast.
So I found a site that generates code for weather.

The problem I have is that the image which is generated is higher than I want. I would prefer 250 *60.

And with divs I can't do it.

Could someone help me?

Hello everyone,

So here is the deal. I have to create a webpage for a bodybuilding fitness club. The problem is that i don't know where to start. Also, am a uni student doing various modules like Database systems(we are using Postgre SQL), Interface Design and computer Graphics(OpenGL, Maya, Google SketchUP) and Web Tech(HTML, CSS, Javascript).

From what i have, I want to use all these resources all together to make up my web page efficiently.

Can you show me a realistic path that can lead me to create my web page from the tools am currently learning? By that i mean where should i start for .e.g. design the database first or think about the page layout and so on.
Also, how should i make efficient use of all these tools to build up the page?

Vertical Align issue in IE7

Hello,

i have some inline images (keyboard keys) in a table cell near each other. Another cell in the row may be very long - fitting into several lines - so the browsers try to wrap every cell. Not using XHTML DTD everything is o.k - the two keyboard key images remain near each other. Switching to XHTML Firefox, Safari and Opera wraps the line between the two images (IE7 not).

As this is a dynamic content, generated from a wiki-like syntax, i am looking for a solution without generally disabling word wrapping in the table cells. Normal text should wrap, only consecutive tags should remain always together (as it is the case without the XHTML DTD).

Placing a between the images (placing before or after all inline images - this is generated contents) solves the problem, but is not an "official" tag.

Defining a style for the inline images with display: inline does not help.

Neither helps placing around each images. Placing a around the image groups is something i want to avoid, as that is not an easy step during the generation.

Ok, this is confusing me to no end, I am making a site and am trying to get the background image to stay in the center, not repeating. I've done this countless times by linking to an internet URL, but not from off of my own hdd.
