Helloo... My name is Yinka. And i'm not very big on programming(had a horrible experience with FORTRAN) in my first year of uni. Just generally into understanding how these things(computers) work, if not for anything, just so that i know how to fix em when things go wrong... Cos u see, i always draw analogies to real life human emotions and qualities, with computers. I think they deserve it, and i'm sure everyone thinks so too :P
Anyway this looks like a brilliant site, well done, i'm sure it'll be of benefit to me, and i hope i can be of benefit to other users as well.

Cheers :D

Hi,

I'm Robert. I'm a webmaster of a business site that use's a php script to
manage the site. I was going to try and learn the php coding, but then
my wife (who has taken an on-line Childrens Book Writing Course) wanted
me to join her on-line www.sci-careers.com school, and enroll in their
C++ & Java Course.

I found this forum by accident, as I was trying to find out more about
C++, and decide if it was worth the challenge. I don't really know anyone
who uses it. So- My questions are this:

Is C++ a good programming lanquage to start out with?
Who uses this programming language? Gamers?

Thanks ahead of time,

Robert Palmer

Hi there Robert. :) This is just an introduction thread in the Geek's Lounge. Please register and post your C++ questions there. But, yes, I think C++ is a good first language - it's used by a wide variety of people for a wide variety of things ;) To develop games, business applications, operating systems, etc. Welcome hextar as well :)

Halloo all!

I'm a database and website administrator for a academic institution who does research work and advocacy for children's rights. Essentially I know a little bit about a lot of computer stuff, but not a lot about any one thing - so I'm attempting to streamline a bit and would like my database world and my web-world melt together a bit, and thought php might be a good place to start. So I guess I'll see you all on our different threads (also the first time I'm indulging in webforums, so to echo the cat in the hat "i'm so exciiiited)

Just wanted to say a quick hiya to members and lurkers. Today is the first day I have ever been to this forum. I have been an official guest lurker for quite sometime now. Ended up back on this site because of favorites folder clean up, decided to keep the site and go ahead and register on here because occasionally I find some really helpful advice and I wanted to be able to post my thanks or even offer a lil tidbit of advice.

I am a Computer/Electronic technician. I dabble in a little bit of this and that when I have time to myself. I guess this is good enough for an beginning intro. TTFN

That counts as vacation right? i get to go play in DC for a week
and commute home untill 830 every night all week long.
and i get to play on DCs dilapidated light rail this is going to be fun.
oh so much fun:twisted:

anyhoo- nice site. very helpful so far. ill rate that nice little samba writeup
you did cscgal when im through. maybe ill even have a bit or two to contribute
later on after i butcher these systems oh so nicely. thanks again, hope things are lookin up for ya.

Ok, well, I am Lori, I am not a computer geek I don't believe, but I do live on mine.... I am at a loss with this stupid rundll32.exe error everytime that I sign off. It is driving me nuts, and it is slowing down my computer. Heck, I cant delete anything else. My step son likes to download porn, but I found that and got rid of it. I need to find a solution for the rundll32.exe issue... can anyone help?
Thanks,
Lori

Hey there Lori, welcome to DaniWeb. Why don't you go ahead and post your question as a new thread in the Windows forum with as detailed a description as you can. This is just the "introduce yourself" thread here in the Geek's Lounge and we try to keep threads on topic so it's easy to find everything for everyone :)

hi. i'm a dad, college student, mad inventor/artist/entrepreneur, and poorly educated computer addict. I was brought here by the subject of my first post. Didn't like to find someone poking around in our personal computer. Made me mad and paranoid... you know...like 1984, my tv (read computer) is watching me.
