usb stopped working

i have windows xp home edition on a compaq presario desktop. i have 4 usb ports in the back and one in the front as of monday they just stopped working. the device manager does not show anything is wrong. i dont know what it could be, i've tried everything and nothing works. any suggestions?:-|

there is a cable that runs from the ports of the front of the computer and attaches to the motherboard. check and see if this is still connected.
