so far all of the Threads in which I've replied to are marked with a symbol (circle with enclosing circle), but for this thread: http://www.daniweb.com/software-development/java/threads/455985/jframes in the Java forum, I just get the difference between 'new' and 'read', a simple button with a file on it.
is this a glitch, or something to be expected more often?

For some reason, your user ID wasn't added to the list of posters in that thread. You can even see that the OP says 3 contributors to the thread when in reality there should be 4.
I'm not sure if this is a one-time bug or something else. Either James or I will have to delve into the code to see if there's a reason why you weren't being added to the list of posters.
just this one (that I'm aware of), might be that it happened before, but not that I noticed.
