Video forums go ballistic when I say "Why edit video at all"

Expand Post »
Hi

I have had my digital camcorder for 3 years now.
There is no need to edit video,
I just have my computer, skip over the offensive material or mistakes.

You just get more good video, when you are out shooting and shooting
as compared to sitting and sitting in front of a computer, bit fiddling.

I know you are just kidding me Walt.

Do they edit the Cartoon type movies. I think not.
Why is that? Because they only capture what they want.

Anyway I have found a place that likes/loves my unedited
video. I don't try to weave any story. I show it as it really is.

I've got video of a hawk hitting a window. The river ice going out
A strange foreigner bird (European hooded crow) Politicians rigging
the election questions. You get good video by shooting lots.

One video may have even changed the results of an election.
I covered a political forum a few years back. The major media
were there (3 different TV cameras) They thought the incumbent
(the deputy prime minister) had said they would send more troops
to Afganistan. The others didn't have the statements in question.
But I had it all. They heard wrong. But if they had gone with what
they thought she said. They would probably have won. It was that
close.

Good catch...

Well, you're actually wrong. They are edited as much as any other film. They always make extra scenes and remove them just like a live movie. And with multiple actions for a single scene so they can choose the scene that works best.

Anyway I have found a place that likes/loves my unedited video. I don't try to weave any story. I show it as it really is.
That's kool. You don't need to edit. Most others do, though, to get the video they want.

My Old Hitachi 350a (DVD) VS the SONY 105 HandyCam (DVD)

The Sony has 20 zoom the Hitachi has 10

The Sony does VOB the Hitachi does MPG

The Sony can go directly to a TV
The Hitachi needs external software to do that.

The Hitachi does a seperate file for each video clip
The Sony can do that, if you change the date between clips.

The Hitachi connects directly to the Computer (USB port)
The Sony you take out the Mini DVD and put that in the computer.
(Very seldom do I need to open the DVD drive on the Hitachi)

Which one would you choose?

I won't be editing anything. You will get to see everything I shoot
today. No tech wizardry.

Check out the fresh video later today at:
http://www.dropshots.com/spectateswamp

I'd choose the Hitachi if the zoom was the same. I post most of
my video on the net and very seldom (like never) watch the
video on a TV.

For sure the Hitachi. The Sony didn't break out every file
when I changed the Year yesterday. I ended up with 3 large
files when I should have had 18 or 20 seperate clips.

So now I need a VOB splitter that is free and doesn't put a
water mark on the output.

All I downloaded from yesterdays video is the first part of
3 video files. Not the 18 or so I captured.
