Video forums go ballistic when I say "Why edit video at all"

Hi

I have had my digital camcorder for 3 years now.
There is no need to edit video,
I just have my computer, skip over the offensive material or mistakes.

You just get more good video, when you are out shooting and shooting
as compared to sitting and sitting in front of a computer, bit fiddling.

I know you are just kidding me Walt.

Do they edit the Cartoon type movies. I think not.
Why is that? Because they only capture what they want.

Anyway I have found a place that likes/loves my unedited
video. I don't try to weave any story. I show it as it really is.

I've got video of a hawk hitting a window. The river ice going out
A strange foreigner bird (European hooded crow) Politicians rigging
the election questions. You get good video by shooting lots.

One video may have even changed the results of an election.
I covered a political forum a few years back. The major media
were there (3 different TV cameras) They thought the incumbent
(the deputy prime minister) had said they would send more troops
to Afganistan. The others didn't have the statements in question.
But I had it all. They heard wrong. But if they had gone with what
they thought she said. They would probably have won. It was that
close.

Merry Christmas Everyone

Good catch... ;)Do they edit the Cartoon type movies. I think not.

Well, you're actually wrong. They are edited as much as any other film. They always make extra scenes and remove them just like a live movie. And with multiple actions for a single scene so they can choose the scene that works best.Anyway I have found a place that likes/loves my unedited video. I don't try to weave any story. I show it as it really is.That's kool. You don'tneed to edit. Most others do, though, to get the video they want.

My Old Hitachi 350a (DVD) VS the SONY 105 HandyCam (DVD)

The Sony has 20 zoom the Hitachi has 10

The Sony does VOB the Hitachi does MPG

The Sony can go directly to a TV
The Hitachi needs external software to do that.

The Hitachi does a seperate file for each video clip
The Sony can do that, if you change the date between clips.

The Hitachi connects directly to the Computer (USB port)
The Sony you take out the Mini DVD and put that in the computer.
(Very seldom do I need to open the DVD drive on the Hitachi)

Which one would you choose?

I won't be editing anything. You will get to see everything I shoot
today. No tech wizardry.

Check out the fresh video later today at: http://www.dropshots.com/spectateswamp

I'd choose the Hitachi if the zoom was the same. I post most of
my video on the net and very seldom (like never) watch the
video on a TV.

For sure the Hitachi. The Sony didn't break out every file
when I changed the Year yesterday. I ended up with 3 large
files when I should have had 18 or 20 seperate clips.

So now I need a VOB splitter that is free and doesn't put a
water mark on the output.

All I downloaded from yesterdays video is the first part of
3 video files. Not the 18 or so I captured.

I actually have to agree with you is it worth sitting their editting video if it is really just amatuer anyway?

I am sure many funny moments have been cut away whilst editting videos.

If I had to edit out the swear words then I'd have nothing.

Too much burden to put on people anyway. Oooh that's not
a perfect video. Or cut that out and get closer there.

There is just so much you can do with the CamCorders and
the DVD storage is almost free.

So maybe you'd like to watch an unedited movie? I'm sure it would just "pull you out of your seat", except that's probably to leave.

And there are many times where you have to keep the camera rolling for a long time, for example to capture background music, which you can dubb in somewhere else in the video. Short videos, maybe. But you simply must take enough footage sometimes, and then editing is inevitable unless you want to watch uselessly long crap that no one likes.

My best unedited video was today.
A Ruffed Grouse marched by the truck window, seeming
to be in time with the music that was playing.

It is todays 6Th video clip at:
http://www.dropshots.com/spectateswamp

I have downloaded it to YouTube but it is not
available for viewing yet. I guess that's why I
like DropShots so much. They say it is 100 times
faster than other systems for downloading and
I believe them.

no editing at all ever.

They won't leave if one has content. And the group you present it to
has an interest. They will allow me to get away with some pretty bad
technical problems.

In certain situations I almost keep the camera rolling. During Political
Forums. I make a quick break between each speaker and the questions.
I don't miss much. They play back one after another, making the viewing
continuous. With the small files it doesn't require any editing to not play
one or change the sequence of the playback by simply renumbering
the videos. I'm sure the candidates were far more interested in the
video about them than the rest of the pack.

My TrapLine video goes well on the Hunting and Trapping forums.
that's my main concern.

It's alright for 30 second video clips. I've done that too, quickly grabbing footage and then posting it on the web. But believe me: anything longer than a few minutes has to be edited to lookprofessional. Yeah, you can get away with a few seconds of shaky footage, but it takes away from your overall presentation.

And stop
the horrid
word wrap
you're using!

I sometimes have the playback on my computer start a fraction
of a second into each clip. Hitting the on / off switch always creates
some jiggle. On a tripod (I don't use them much) I use the remote
to switch on and off. Eliminating that tiny problem.

The Tsunami video was worse than mine and people watched every
bit of it. I'm just saying if you keep the clips relatively short. You don't
have to Physically edit the video. You do lose a little resolution when
rerendering. Just don't upload the ones that arn't up to par. With DVD's
so cheap. You can keep everything for pennies. It's not a storage
problem any more. I say people should shoot land shoot lots and upload
their best.

I thing those long long long lines are horrid. But it's ok if you like that way

Use the camcorder like a garden hose. Follow that butterfly
till it lands. Play it back in slow motion. Shaky you bet. Get
the right sun and a co-operative butterfly and you got action
and beauty.
