A version control system for code. I use it a lot because i like linux and a lot of cutting edge code is only avaiable via subversion (SVN) and not in binary format.
Kinda like MS Sourcesafe but not as gui-ish

I generally avoid cutting edge stuff. (my arch repos are modern enough...Of course with debian stable......)

I was talking about small opensource projects, many of them have code available only under SVN

We switched over to SVN about 6 months ago from VSS and like it a lot better. Not having locked "checked out" files has really made things much easier and it's pretty rare that we even have to manually resolve a merge conflict. Very nice to work with.
