General Motors to use Sun's Java Enterprise System

Expand Post »
Sun Microsystems, the pioneers of the Java technology, announced today that auto maker General Motors has chosen the Java ES to provide an “integrated software environment for the company’s global information technology infrastructure.

The Java software, which is designed for large scale infrastructure deployment, is designed to be a flexible, affordable, and open enterprise system.

“The decision to integrate the complete Java ES stack is largely based on the success GM has enjoyed with Sun Java ES software components. It supports our objective of increasing the value of our development investment while reducing operating costs, said General Motors’ Information Systems and Services Chief Technology Officer, Fred Killeen

According to a recent Sun Microsystems press release, GM will be the largest company yet to use Java ES to build a service oriented architecture.

GM also plans to deploy Sun’s Solaris 10 operating system as a standard OS in its infrastructure.
