How to use laptop in wifi hotspot

Expand Post »
Hi, i have a laptop without the wi-fi capabilities and am going away on holiday soon and would like to know what i need to purchase to make this laptop able to be used in wi-fi areas.eg. starbucks coffee shops etc. My hotel i will be staying in has internet in each room via modem wireless router so just need to know what i'll need to make this work instead of buying new laptop with wifi already included. Also what would be the best product for best performance.
It is a Compaq Presario if it makes any difference
Thanks in advance
Graham

Re: How to use laptop in wifi hotspot

wireless is very handy, but your unlikely to get the sames speeds as you would over ethernet, howver a wireless lan adaptor 802.11g/b should be fine, try and find out what standard the hotel uses, as you'll almost always be better off getting an adaptor from a similar range, as in netgear rangemax router + netgear rangemax wlan adaptor.
