blog+wordpress help

Friends am new for blogs and just for learning purpose i hosted 2-3 blogs and one of them is in WORDPRESS and the others in blogspot. Blogspot is rather easy for customization but WORDPRESS is hard what i felt.
i want ur help to learn more. I hered that you can have plugins in wordpress.. is it possible only if we have hosted it in our own website or also possible with the free one we get when we register with wordpress?

also how to validate that i am the real owner of wordpress blog to google?

also how to put a sitemap to google for this wordpress blog?

real confused! please help
