New Programming Project

I'm fairly new to programming, but I've been spending a lot of time lately learning HTML, javascript, and some .NET related scripting/programming. I also have written programs in C++. I'm looking for a project to learn from.

My other hobby is writing. I like Office, Outlook, and Thunderbird.

I'm looking for a beginers project like building a simle text editor in a windows environment. Anyone have any ideas? Any directions to point me?

Well, I guess I'll hijack my own thread here.

I found projects on asp.net (the site) and other stuff. I guess if you 'study' and hunt around enough you eventually learn enough to do what you want.

I was going to suggest using Python + wxPython to make a text editor like Notepad or Wordpad. But you don't know Python right?
