I have finished a lifetime of programming multiuser databases running on mainframes using PL/I, and now I want to play with Test Driven Development. I've not done it before and sounds like a step forward. The project I'm working on is multithread and I am trying to see how TDD deals with multithread.

I can see you you can dummy out one side and give it a preformed queue to read/write, OK as far as it goes. Although I am not a programmer by trade, I do tend to find ways to fit programming into my tasks at work as an operations analyst in a fluid milk plant. I have automated several dozens of spreadsheets for both myself and others, including tasks such as automatically feeding data into an AS/400 mainframe (through the front-end... I don't have IT access to the back), e-mailing out automatically generated reports, making charts where the individual bars can change color based on its value, etc.

My specialty is Visual Basic for Applications, but I also know some Pascal, C++, SQL and HTML, as well as 6510 assembly language (which is useless now).

I discovered this forum while searching for help with learning advanced C++ concepts. I also have posts on Sourceforge.net about Dev CPP, and now I am using MSVC Express 2008 so I am posting here.

The project I am working on now in my free time will be fairly involved so I may be in and out from time to time, mostly on the C++ forum.

Back in 1978, when I was driving down Hawthorne Blvd in Redondo Beach (California), I saw a sign that said "Byte Shop", and made a fast u-turn, thinking, "You mean I can buy my own computer?!!". Fifteen minutes and $1200 bucks later, I walked out with an Apple, with 4K of RAM and connections to a TV and a cassette recorder.

Now I'm a retired elementary school teacher with an iPod Touch and a yen to create educational software on it.

I figure C++ is a good place to start, and I'm taking a course in it this semester, going on next semester to OOP in the same language. After that I hope to move sideways into Apple's Objective C and Cocoa.

Aside from that, I like to take road trips in a Vixen RV, read science fiction (Vernor Vinge) and suspense novels (Stieg Larssen) and some nonfiction (Imagining India), and discuss them in book reading groups.

Well other than being a mother of teens, im 38 years old and wait for it............... yeah trying to teach myself webdesign. I were 27 when i first switched on a computer, and yeah i was looking for the button at the screen.............. lol!!!!!!!!!!! From there the bug has bitten me. I :* :* :* my notebook. Im really not good at anything yet, so class me as a beginner please, for i have only touched html and css, but have really fallen in love with what php can do.. I know i have finally landed amongst the right minded group of ppl, and hope that u will have alot of patients with my stupid q's.

My goal:

To try and get some php / mySQL certification behind my name so that i can, yeah at this age, start a career in some sort of web / development. (love coding)

When Im away from my computer:
I have alot of compasion with ppl, but in the same breath have a very short temper with some things only, which by the way doesn't incl. cyberspace.

I want to learn developing digital image processing projects, unfortunately do not know nearly anything about it :):(:'( want to learn developing simulation projects, actually I do not know much about simulation too, unfortunately.
But If you are interested in simulation , you can use XNA's libraries, or DirectX.

In digital image processing, as far as I saw, generally , MATLAB is used, but I guess we cannot create executable files with MATLAB, so , and since I want to use image processing in ,maybe, robotics and differrent branches, I would rather use C#, at least I love C# more. By the way, I do not know if we can create projects with MATLAB for robotics or similar things.

I am now trying to branch out from Access into other things, and have just started to learn PHP, HTML, Javascript, and SQL. My hope in learning this is to benefit the company I work for in redesigning a database we currently have in Access to SQl server, as it is more flexible.

It is a lot to take in, so joining a forum is one of the best tools I've found in learning, even if all you do is read other peoples questions and answers.

I have been active in content managment since 1997 and in site creation since 2001. I am an instructor at Western Technical College in La Crosse, WI where I teach Microsoft Office classes and a class in web site creation and Expression Web. I have 3 small businesses that keep me busy days.

Unlike many of you, I am a believer in web software. And curse of all curses, am comfortable with Microsoft products. I create at least a dozen new sites a year for small businesses and with all of my other acitiviities do not have either the time or the desire to write all of the code anymore.

I write HTML and XHTML, which is admittedly not much of an accomplishment in todays web world. Today I use the ability to define where I want to insert code created by script editiors rather than as a production tool. I have dabbled in Javascript and ASP but would rather let software take care of it for me.

I am not sure I fit with a tech forum. I thiink my contribution might be to be supportive of those trying to learn or seeking an approach that does not require them to be coding experts. I am offended by some of the responses I have seen in other forums. When someone seeks help on an issue it should not be an invitation to rip on them for using a feature that is unpopular or anitiquated.
