The above named machine shows both local network and the internet are connected under the network sharing center menu but when i try and open Firefox or IE8 it does not connect at all! I tried clearing the cache, cookies but to no avail. i also tried system restore as well as disabling and re-enabling the net. adapter, i turned off the data execution prevention it still does not work. please help as i am now losing hope!! thank you in advance guys.

Hey I am looking to buy a new router, and was wondering if anyone knew if this router has built in modem or something. http://www.netgear.com/Products/Rout.../WNDR3700.aspx would I be able to use this router to connect to the internet without having any other modems or routers plugged in, or having to plug in or use anything that my dsl provider gave me? I want a router to replace everything I use now. Also is this router good for streaming youtube videos and playing multiplayer games like Call of Duty and Everquest 2?

I have a few networking questions/problems

My brother got a laptop the other day and i have been having some trouble setting it up with our existing wireless network. I have a laptop that is about 3 years old and a D-Link wireless router. I could get my brothers laptop to connect to the router but if he turned the laptop off then back on, it would fail to reconnect. It seems to be working now but i'm not really sure why.
See bottom of post for technical details. I will add details if necessary and when i am able (i.e. if i'm not at work).

I am no expert when it comes to networking, it's not really my thing. So i have a few questions which i am not sure if they are a problem.

Firstly, what could be the problem with my brother's laptop? A while ago i was having trouble with my laptop's connection and found that updating it's wireless card driver. Would doing the same with my brother's help?

Second, i have noticed that the DNS Suffix is "domain.invalid". Is that bad? I don't really know what that means so please indicate how i can elaborate on that so you guys can better diagnose the problem.

Third, i was also trying to set up file sharing between both computers. I eventually figured out that i had to allow it in Norton's firewall, but when googling i read that i should set each laptop's ip (i.e. static) as 192.168.0.x. But when i did that i could no longer access the internet. What's the difference between static and dynamic and why the difference?

Details:
Wireless router: D-Link DI-524 802.11g
My laptop: OS: Windows XP SP3, Wireless card: Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG
Brother's laptop: OS: Windows Vista (Home Premium i think), i'll check the hardware specs when i get the chance

Tons of Duplicate Acks Slowing Down Network

I have a port server that converts an 19.2kbps rs-232 data stream to tcp/ip then to my computer wirelessly using Motorola Canopy system. When my tcp/ip server software connects to the end device (the serial device), the available bandwidth is reduced drastically. Here is a screen shot of the bandwidth usage when connected to two port servers:

(My computer IP is .140 and the two serial port server IPs are .101 and .102)

I used wireshark to have a look at the packets being sent accross the network. It seems that the network conjestion is being cause by a Duplicate Acks sent by my computer. Here is a picture of the wireshark capture:

What are possible explainations of so many duplicate acks being sent. What else can I do to trouble shoot the problem?

Network in a store

Hey

I'm new and I kind of joined out of desperation.
I apologize in advance if my English is too bad for this type of subject and/or if I'm posting something that isn't allowed here.

Right now, I'm in the middle of a school project where we are to describe a complete network including:
- Cash register
- Office PC
- 3 x Home PC
- And of course stuff like server, router, and so on.
Cash register and computers all need access to the same updated data in an accounting software that I guess will be installed on the server. The software is supposed to update storage and register sales from the cash register. Then it should be managed on the computers.

ANY advice, references, help, tips would be helpful.

We are developing a web application(with Oracle and EJS) for a telecom payment site (like recharges, ticket bookings etc...) and are currently involved in deciding on requirements for a new production server that we intend to buy. This machine will run Windows XP.
We are expecting around 5000-7500 hits/sec which in turn might increase in the near future. What would you suggest in terms of hardware specifications? I'm more of a software developer than a network engineer, so I would welcome suggestions.

Please Help! Can't access or use my router anymore

Hi all! I am using Sitecom WL-160 Router to share Internet from PPPOE Modem. Today I wanted to update the firmware on the router, so used the utility from sitecom (1.67v), anyway I mistakenly uploaded the wrong file, after that the router restarted but didn't work, now I can't use Wland or Lan, I can't access the interface through 192.168.0.1. I reseted the router many times, but it doesn't seem to react. I checked the IP adress from the router, and I attached it to let you see it.
So What can I do? The router functions as it has no software at all. Although when I connect it to the ethernet it shows it is connected (for example through port 2). I still have the two files of the Firmware which I should have uplaoded to the router. :icon_exclaim:
Any help?!

Hello All,
At the moment of time, I am taking a Network Course in my college, and seems everything going NICE! (I hope it goes nice till the end of the semester)

Anyways, I had a problem that I solved but it didn't make any sense to me at all.
a-It asked for the Channel Capacity if the channel is noise free
I solved it and I got 400kbps

b-Then it asked for the Channel Capacity if the channel is noisy with a signal-to-noise ratio of 20dB.
I solved it as well and I got 665.82kbps

I checked it with one of my friends solution and he also got these numbers (not necessary to be correct though), so my question here, is it logical that a Noisy channel has more capacity than a noise free or not?? AS it doesn't make sense at all, because I think that for a Noisy channel the Capacity should decrease.

I've tried several different drivers and running them in compatibility mode under XP/Vista.

wireless MAC and DSL PC

Not sure where to post this, but here goes.
I have a PC running Win XL pro (sp3). It has a DSL service connected and running. I have a MAC I-Book G4 that has no internet service unless I use the internal modem and dial up.
I have used a router and networked the I-book, my desktop PC and another desktop PC (running Win2k sp3) on occasion, but I found it to be less than reliable (BellSouth is the ISP).
I would like to access the XLpro PC with the Ibook via a wireless setup.
What do I need? How do I go about it?

interesting issue this is not for me but for a friend,, he has a windows xp with an integrated nic card and it reads a 169 ip address, and he has also put in an pci Ethernet adapter and still has the same issue.. he has uninstalled the nic from the device manager and reinstalled it..he has even tried to hard set the ip address in to the LAC and still does not work...

Internet disconnections

My issue is dealing with my internet connection. I have never had this problem till this weekend when i hooked it up to my aunt's internet. It will be working and connected fine to my network then bam the whole internet dies completely, or it decides to switch to a different internet connection in the area. Then i go through the frustrating process of trying to reconnect to my network that all of sudden can't be found. I've even sat right beside the router to make sure i was in range. My sister's computer doesn't have this problem with her internet. So I don't know what has cause the sudden stupidity in my laptop. I've uninstall/reinstalled my wireless program and I have used windows as my default wireless connection. Neither processes has work no longer than 5-15minutes. When i try to repair the connection it says can't connect to network and such. It says I have good connection at times but no connection.

I'm running all the necassary scanning programs on my computer to make sure it's not a virus but i still haven't found anything.

So any ideas what I should do and what could be causing this?

Hey Daniweb community,

The office space we rented includes Ethernet wiring, however the patch where the network equipment can be connected has strange connectors on the cables coming out of it.

The cables themselves are Cat5e and connect to standard 8P8C wall plates. I'm sure they're for Ethernet, but the connectors themselves are bizarre. The one on the right of the picture is mangled up, so I have no clue why anyone would want to install connectors like this. I must not be understanding their purpose.

If you were asked to offer a multi-site video conferencing solution, where quality is more important than price, what would you offer? With my current knowledge I can offer just two things: 1) Use hardware codecs for pears and make one server MCU. (This way I offer just intallation and configuration of the hardware) 2) Use PC for each pear/site and make one PC server MCU. But "implement" codec and the needed software. This way I will offer my software, "my" codec + configuration and installation.

What other options do we have in video conferencing? I think I also have to choose among different protocols if I choose to implement a software: what are options, their pros and cons.

Actually this is a question of someone who knows very little about video conferencing. So advices in any level and links to short and helpful tutorials are very welcome.

At the moment I have access to 2 wireless networks.

1: Where I live, I have access to wireless network it has 2Mbit/s down and up.
2: I Have ISP as well and I have attached wireless router. 10 Mbit/s down and very very bad upload speed ~0.68 Mbit/s

So I have two wireless internet accesses. Is it possible to join them in one, atleast on 1 PC ?

Help needed with netsh, to change IP automatically

Hello,

My brother's computer (in another room) is equipped with a cable modem connection. My computer is connected to my brother's computer via a cross cable (a straight cable + jointer + small cross cable so as to change back to straight cable when connecting directly to modem).

ICS is setup on both the computers as required and everything works fine. When my brother is not working on his computer and it is switched off, I cannot connect through the computer's second network card. I have to manually unplug the jointer and the small cross cable and connect the straight cable to the cable modem.

Then, on my computer, I use a MAC address changer so that my network card's address is the same as what my brother's 1st (onboard) network card has. I also have to manually change from the static IP of 192.168.0.2 to "Obtain and IP address automatically".

This way, I am able to connect both ways and with or without the other computer turned on.

Sometimes I have to do this switching thing more than once a day and it is a hassle to change the IP address every time. I had thought of adding another network card to my computer with a static IP and then I only need to switch the cable to the other card. But the other card (old, Winbond) isn't detected in my computer.

I know that netsh is a command that can change IP addresses based on a script, but do not know how to do this. Using the script, I can just double-click the file and the IP would be changed.

Can someone please tell me what I need to add to the script file and what exact netsh commands do I need for the above?

Confusion about Access Points

In need of assistance. I am trying to cover a big area wirelessly. I have 3 APs. They are not all the same brand. One is WAP54G and the two others are Belkin Routers (used as APs). The setup is as follows: The Cable Modem is connected to a netgear 4 port switch (FVS114). The switch is then connected to another switch (#1). Switch #1 is connected to AP#1 (Belkin) and to another switch (#2). Switch #2 is connected to AP#2 (also a Belkin) and to another AP (Linksys). The first Belkin router is configured as an AP. I think that I need to reset all of the APs so that they match. I am only confused as to whether or not they can all have the same SSID and Gateway Address and Subnet Mask. Currently, only the first Belkin AP works. The other APs are having trouble allowing devices to connect to them locally. Please respond as soon as possible. Thanks.

Hello,recently I've installed Ubuntu 9.04 as sole OS on my PC (clean installation).It went well (drivers updated and Internet connection configured properly) for a week.Until,I decided to assign a static IP for my 'torrents' purposes.From that point till right now,I can't accessing my Internet connection.Every time I tried to access,it came back 'Server not found'.Strangely same thing happened when I connected my DSL-520B (the problematic modem) to my brothers HP Notebook on Win Vista.I suspected it went wrong with my action (setting the static IP from DHCP on Ubuntu) that caused the problem to the connection.Please,if there anyone Ubuntu geeks in this forum,that could help me solving the problem.It have been 2 weeks without Internet that make me nuts.Please...

Hello there. I would like to ask some suggestions guys for my Senior year project. Im thinking about doing something regarding networking. Heres' the scenario:

Our school library has a Wi-fi connection and students can access the internet once they register and get a card from the librarian. The card contains the password for the Wi-fi connection in order for you to connect to the internet. Now, some students who regularly use the Wi-Fi connection does not anymore register since they already have memorized the password. Here comes my Senior project idea..

I'm thinking about a doing a software that would detect whether a student has registered his laptop in order for him to connect to the internet.I'm thinking about registering and detecting their I.P addresses or MAC address. If for example the software has detected that you are not registered you cannot connect to the internet...I hope you guys get my point.

Now I would like to ask for some help or suggestions about how to do this. Where should I start? Is this topic feasible? I would like to hear from you guys..Thanks

Not Connecting

I have a HP Pavilion laptop that has 1.83 ghz processor with 3 gig ram. It is running Vista Home Premium. I have been connecting to the internet through a wiresless connection and it has worked fine, then it just stopped connecting. There are others in the house that connect fine and I have taken it to work where we have a wireless connection and it will not work. It see the network and sometimes it says it is connected but just local. I have tried doing a system restore and that didn't help. I scanned with malwarebytes and found some things and scanned with avg and it is all clean. Still doesn't work. I tried connecting through a wired connection and that doesn't work either. I tried to reset winsock by doing the netsh winsock reset catalog and then reset the IPv4 tcp/ip with netsh int ipv reset reset.log and reset IPv6 tcp/ip netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log then rebooted, but nothing works. I did all that by running as administrator.
Any help Please.

Problems with setting up Netgear WG602 v3 access point - revisited

I have the identical problem described in a thread by "ladygetaway" in November of 2006.

I have two Netgear WG602v3 access points which I bought and installed successfully two years ago. Recently it became necessary to reinstall the AP by returning them to factory defaults and then reconfiguring fo a new network. So I pressed the reset button on the back for 10 seconds and the wireless LED flashed as it should. Now the fun begins. I cannot get access to the setup menu in either AP by
following the installation instruction in the manual.
1) connect AP directly to PC
2) set PC IP address to 192.168.0.210
3) set mask to 255.255.255.0
4) open IE8 browser and enter 192.168.0.227 IP address to bring up the setup menu.

The reason this is not working is because the PC thinks the network cable is unplugged which it is not. I have tried several cables and even a new crossover cable (which should not be necessary) just in case. All give same results.

I am running Windows XP sp3 on a fairly new dell E5400.
Ipconfig returns the IP 192.168.0.210 and mask 255.255.255.0 and no gateway.

pinging 192.168.0.227 returns errors like packets sent=4 Receives =2 lost =2 (50% loss) or a "request timed out" message.

The tread in 2006 never resolved the issue. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Took one of my units home to allow one worker to collaborate via VPN to my Vista Ultimate network. To test on my laptop, I have installed the VPN client and seek to get the certificate on as well for a client access connection from outside of my home network. The admin manual is not helpful to me in this instance. The options of 'Generate' and 'Import' are apparent.

The 'Generate' option appears to only regenerate the existing certificate on the router.

The 'Import' option creates a browsing option which I have tried but no default filename appears. I have tried to enter a filname of my choosing but the error message indicates that what was selected is not acceptable. Guidance sought

Hi,
I run windows vista home premium.
I have a desktop, and laptop and both were connected wirelessly to a linksys BEFW11S4 router which connects via ethernet cable to a westell wirespeed B90-210015-04.

The router and the modem are both old, from perhaps 3 years ago.

I was able to connect fine to the internet for a long time. THe connection was unsecure so I thought that I should make it secure. I did, set the WEP encryption, and now its a secure connection... that doesnt connect to the internet. Both computers list the connection as a local connection.

So everything worked yesterday until I stupidly decided to mess around with it and now its only local. I tried going back but now even when its unsecured, the connection is still local.

Any help? Please?

Missing Drives

This morning I went to one of our satellite sites because they were unable to log in to a few applications that they were needing to use. When I got there I found out that the server was missing a few drives and folders that needed to be shared in order for the applications to be running.

All of the icons on the users desktops have disappeared and the folders and the other drives are also missing on the server. The only remaining drive is the C drive. There are supposed to be 2 other drives on the computer but they are not showing up and they hold the application files there.

When I came back to the home site and logged in remotely using the Run command, all the drives and folders are located but they just don't show up on site over at the satellite company. We run a back-up every night and to save me the trouble of having to run a restore I was wondering if anybody has an idea as to what might be happening here. Thanks in advance!

I have an old Toshiba Laptop, build in 1995, which is still fully operational and used by a family member. The machine runs on Windows 95. It's got two ancient PC card slots, One of them is filled by a Xircom Ethernet adapter which was fairly expensive at the time. I recall transferring files from the Win 95 System to my Win2K system a couple of years ago which was easy.

I tried to connect that ancient Laptop to my current Windows Vista 64 bit System but failed. The Vista machine just found an unidentified network, but did not detect the laptop.

I was able to dial up to the Internet with the modem card that is in the other PCMCIA card slot and managed to transfer some files as attachments to e-mails.

What do I need to do to get a direct LAN connection between these two machines?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Printing problem on network

Somewhen i give the print on the network printer, it works well but somewhen it gives an error "Printer error - there may not be enough space or there may be some problem with your network".

i.e. at first time it gives error & if i try to print again, after a second, it works well.

I have inherited a wiring situation after a move. There is a Leviton Patch Panel with each pair matched, (blue-white/white-blue, green-white/white-green and so on). I wired the jacks in the wall according to T568B. Do I wire the punch down patch panel according to how I wired the jack, or is the patch panel switching the matched pair color scheme to T568B from the punch down side to it's own jack? Is this a standard for patch panels or a leviton thing?

Netgear FSV336G blocks outgoing POP mail

Well, pretty much as the thread title says, it seems that our new firewall is blocking outgoing POP email. Incoming POP mail works fine. Also both incoming and outgoing IMAP email works fine. If I try to send an email from my POP account I get the follwing error email:

message . . . another weird thing is that it comes in my Archive Folders - Inbox rather than my Personal Folders (where my POP mail is set to filter to).

We recently removed our SBS2003 server(s) (we just use a Network Attached Storage device for User authentication) and Watchguard Firebox to simplify our life. In it's place we installed the Netgear ProSafe FSV336G Dual WAN firewall (we're just using the single WAN2). The computer that I'm using is an Apple MacBook Pro running Windows Vista Ultimate.

The documentation from Netgear shall we say is lacking. And help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Connection Issue and Riched20.dll

This computer I am working on is running a Vista OS. It's not connecting to any websites. I am able to connect to my router, any local network, even Microsoft updates see there needs to be an update and will attempt to connect but gets pretty much no signal. There ARE packets coming and going here. When I go to use either browser Explorer/Firefox I get the not able to connect issue. I have done a lot of basic to more than basic diagnostics. I have found out this particular machine doesnt have service pack 1 installed. I downloaded service pack 1 via another machine and dropped the .exe on the desktop. When I go to install it I get a riched20.dll file error (which I also get upon doing many other things in this machine). From what I gather riched20.dll is a outlook dll file reference. Yet, I am not doing anything close to outlook so I don't understand why I keep getting this error. Back to the networking problem...

with all of that I say this, I am including the riched20.dll issue because I think maybe getting service pack 1 installed may fix this internet connection issue. I have checked to update drivers it seems the latest driver for this Marvell Yukon 88E056 PCI-E Ethernet Controller was done in 2007. The computer is up to date with it. I have ran many virus scans and things of that sort. I have triple checked internet options and windows firewall options. I have no clue whats going on here. Any help would be great I hope I gave good enough prognosis of my problem.

1) If I use one router with one network, all work fine.
Ping to router, ping to internet, loading web pages is ok(include more extensive web pages).
Internet - router1 - pc
Access via hostname to other pc in my network is ok. (I can access this pc e.g. http://mypc as well.)

2) But if I use 2nd router, pages loading is bad. It is very slow(mainly more extensive web pages).
(but ping is still ok)

I have 10 computers in my office and all of them are connected with each other . We sharing files with each other and there is no problem to access other computers in office with networking printer.

In one of the PC we have installed a second network card 10/100 to access the internet.

Kindly note :
1. We have a DSL modem supplies by the internet company and connected with second network card with proxy setup. We have not using any firewall in this computer to protect any sites .
Problem:
All the 8 computers are able to access the internet but some of them -----
1. Not opening the most of sites.
2. Yahoo messenger is not sending the files and web cam is alos giving the error.
3. Norton anti Virus is upgrading and setup with minimum security.
4. Not able to use rapid share with flash get for download.

Hi, kindly assist me by explaining to me what makes a cisco 2950 series switch when switched on it pings the LAN for a few minutes and then says that destination host is unreachable.

The connection is on fibre optic cable using a dlink converter to convert.
I've shifted the switch to another position and it works fine but on returning it to its original place it starts experiencing the same problem.

I'm in need of a gaming rig but don't want to waste my money on a new laptop with a dedicated graphics card that I probably won't be able to upgrade. My idea is to invest in a good Desktop rig since I mostly game there anyways and use a remote desktop connection from a cheap netbook or tablet pc so I can always be on the desktop, even at school. I already use dyndns to perform remote backups, and as online storage space. I have 2 questions:

What kind of upload speeds would I need for this to work? I have 384Kbps, is this enough?

I'm currently attempting with my very limited knowledge to setup a wireless network.

I have a wireless laptop, wireless printer and wired desktop.

Before I started the desktop internet worked no problem being wired through the router, all was fine.

Since getting the laptop to access the internet and printer wirelessly the desktop connection has been lost.

The only differences I can see is the laptop IPV4 is set to internet and the desktop says local. How can I change this to internet.

IPV6 is limited on the desktop.

Hi. I'm at wits end. Can't fix my wireless network.
My laptop specs are:
Model: HP Pavilion dv5000 series
OS: Windows XP SP2

I recently reformatted my laptop using HP's PC Recovery tool installed with the notebook. Everything looked fine except that I could not connect to the internet thru my wireless network. I've checked everything. My HP wireless assistant can detect wireless networks at range but my wireless icon on the system tray has a red X mark on it saying it is not connected. I've also checked the devices on Device Manager and everything looks fine. Tried repairing but a pop-up message appears, saying that it cannot finish repairing coz the action connecting to wireless network is not done. I tried connecting thru cable and it works. My network configuration is all set to auto, leaving windows to automatically set everything (TCP/IP, etc)

Can't connect to computer on network

I guess I'm not network savvy enough to figure this one out on my own. I'm trying to access a shared drive on my laptop via my desktop. The device shows in my list of networked computers. When I try to access it it tells me it's not accessible or I don't have permission. I turned off the firewall and it still denies me. I pinged it and there is no problem there. As far as I can tell it's set up properly, I just can't tell what I'm overlooking to allow access to the device. All my other computer have no problem accessing each other within the workgroup. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 with Vista. I had the internet wirelessly hooked up through a Linksys wireless router. Then I received a wireless modem through my ISP, now I am unable to connect wirelessly. It will tell me that it is connected, but something happens in the identifying stage of the process and it disconnects. I thought there was something wrong with the modem, until I went somewhere else and tried to connect and that didn't work either. Now I'm assuming somewhere along the line I messed with some setting I souldn't have, but I can't figure out what. Please Help!!!

Friggen Hamachi!! HELP!

I've been running Hamachi on a small business network for over a year. No problems whatsover...

...until about a month ago. All of sudden no-one could connect to to each other, so I got all of the clients to update to "trial" version and problem went away.

As of this AM, we are back to the same situation as a month ago...(evaluation expired)...noone can connect anymore...actually now we cant see ANY users status on the Hamachi network(all appear offline even though they are connected)

All I can say is..WTF?

Any suggestions as to the best alternative? (easiest one too). The PC I have set up as a server(running XP with remote desktop patched to allow unlimited connections) is located the next city over so it means a road trip to fix this. Some of the client computers are behind multiple routers as well. (and in different physical locations).

I tried setting up a dynamic dns account and forwarding the RDC port, but the server is also behind multiple routers (and each router is using seperate dynamic address range) so its an issue with the port-forwarding. grrrr

Simpliest would be an alternative open source client with same functionality (and ease of setup/use) as hamachi.

Does anyone have any suggestions??

News Story Why more WiFi?

The UK has finally ratified the 802.11n standard for WiFi at last. Although we've had '802.11n-ready' kit on the market for a fair while, it hasn't been official as yet.

I can only hope people in stores will be able to explain what people are buying. I say this because of what happened the last time we had anything as '(standard)-ready', which was with high definition televisions. It wasn't pretty.

Essentially, the problem then was that there were too many versions of the technology around. People weren't clear what they were buying and the technical standard changed while they were buying. So things that were HD-ready weren't true HD, which really confused the hell out of people.

I hope the same doesn't happen with 802.11n. In theory it should be straightforward as people won't have had conflicting standards thrown at them. But I'm willing to bet nobody'll trust it at first.

I have a Netgear Prosafe GS108 8-port gigabit switch which I've been using at home for a couple of years without problems. It's uplinked to my main switch in another room, and has 5 devices connected to it (Tivo, Media Centre PC, IP Camera, Wireless Router, Slingbox).

A few days ago, while I was on holiday, all of the devices connected to the Netgear dropped off the LAN. When I returned I checked the cable connections and they were all fine. I then swapped in an old DG834 switch and everything was fine, so it looks as if the Netgear may be faulty.

The green power LED on the switch is lit, but the other lights are flashing in a strange 3-stage pattern:
1. All 8 green port LEDs illuminated for about a quarter of a second, then
2. LED for port 8 ONLY illuminated for about a quarter of a second, then
3. LED for port 7 ONLY illuminated for about a quarter of a second, then back to the start of this pattern.
This pattern repeats ad infinitum.

I've tried powering down a few times but it hasn't made any difference. I can't find a way of doing a factory reset either - there's no switch on the box, and I can't locate a user manual anywhere on the web.

Can anyone suggest any further measures, before I stump up £50 for a new switch?

FTP Error and Frontpage Problems

So here is my problem. I had built a website today over at my friends house, than i returned home to finish it up and i couldn't log on from front page. I went to open site, typed in designmk.org (and at my friends house it immediately prompted for name and password we logged in and all was well) but i got this error

"The folder 'designmk.org' isn't accessible. The folder may be located in an unavailable location, protected with a password or the filername contains a / or \."

So than i tried to FTP it by opening up My Documents and typing ftp://designmk.org....it lags out and i eventually receive this message

Windows cannot access this folder. Make sure you typed the file name correctly and that you have permission to access the folder. Details: A connection with the server could not be established

So than i went to My Network Places, and added it as a network place and i can access it that way, but ONLY by Going thru Network Places ---> designmk.org and click on the created icon. Where i should be able to quickly FTP from any windows folder.

I have NO Firewall enable what so ever. Windows Firewall is turned off and i even ran the internet direct to the modem (removing the router) I have no issues with downloading or surfing the net or anything else. Just this FTP and Frontpage issue.

I began doing reading and wound up doing and iprelease and renew. when i ran the ipconfig /renew command i got the following

an error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out.

but i have no connectivity issues, just the FTP issue. so i kept reading and d/l'ed a Winsockxpfix program ran it and same issues.
now when i run the ipconfig /renew it now says this

the operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation

I have no idea what to do. Anyone please help me. I used to be able to do this just find (last time roughly 3 months ago)

I have no connectivity issues while surfing or issues while downloading. Only when trying to FTP in a windows folder or logon to my site in frontpage. If i run ftp.exe i can connect thru the command prompt, so i am really confused.

IP conversation thru routers

For an IP conversation that is passed through 2 routers....
and packets are captured at the output of each router at the ports the IP conversation is routed to.....

would each side of the router packet capture carry the same packets or conversation packets with the exception being that the source and destination IP address would be different?

What else would look different between the two packet captures?

Hey I have a Netgear Wireless Adapter and sometimes it can't connect to the internet for a few hours, because it says I need to do some sign up with my ISP, yet when this happens it takes me to the sign up page but it can't ever load the sign up page when this happens because it has to connect to the internet and it can't because I can't load the page to get me connected to the internet. I am using a 2WIRE router to connect to the internet. What is the sign up page for that router? Or is there a way to make my Netgear Wireless Adapter stop messing up and telling me I need to sign up to my ISP?

Connecting two routers wirelessly

Hi,

I am trying to set up a strange network configuration. Basically I have a wireless network from a BTHomeHub covering my house but I have a few devices that need an Ethernet connection and I don't like the idea of wires trailing though the house (The HomeHub only has two Ethernet ports anyway which are both taken up).

My idea was to connect a Belkin 54G Wireless router to the network and then use this as an Ethernet hub for my wired devices.
Is this even possible? If it is either direction to a good website showing me how to do this or a few pointers would be helpful.
If it isn't does anyone else have any other ideas? Using a laptop to connect to the hub maybe?

One more thing to note is that one of these devices is an xbox. I don't know if that complicates things.

Problem with my Dell Inspiron Wireless Card

Can anyone help me with this problem. I have a Dell Inspiron 2200 and it seems that the wireless card has somehow got switched off, it worked ok one day and the next day it didn't! I've tried contacting Dell but my warranty has just ended so they won't help me. I can connect to the internet if I plug in a cable between the wireless router and the laptop but it goes off when I unplug it. Tiscali have checked it out for me and the broadband connection to my house is good. What do I do?

trying to share a printer via wireless router

i have been trying to share my printer with my 2 laptops on my d-link wireless-n router. i turned on file and printer sharing and went in and checked share printer in the printer settings. my problem is on the router my 3 computers dont see each other on the network, and i try and have my laptop search for the printer using the add printer wizard and no printer shows up.
i'm thinking the router is to blame(a setting im guessing). i know very little about routers...can someone plz help me...

Strange network browsing problem

I have a strange network problem with a new HP Elitebook (laptop). The machine runs WinXP sp2 and is configurated the same as an older Asus laptop.

Both (the HP and Asus) are in the workgroup LAPTOPS. The server is Slackware Linux 12.1 with samba up and running. All desktop computers are domain members and everything works. The domain name is HEEG. For e-mail I have an old windows 2000 server domain name of this server is MAILHEEG.

Explorer -> My Network Places -> Microsoft Windows Network on the Asus laptop shows all other computers (also the two domains). Net view on the Asus shows the ASUS itself and the HP and net view /domain:heeg shows the domain shares.

The HP is something else. Explorer doesn't show anything for at least 2 minutes and then it only shows LAPTOPS. But clicking on this gives nothing but errors. Net view only gives error 6118 and does not show the HP or the ASUS.
But net view /domain:heeg shows (after a very long pause) the domain shares. Ping any other computer gives instant reply.
Net use x: \\linux-server\a share works.

So, on the HP, as long as I use the domain name(s) or the computer name(s) when I try to connect to another computer it is possible. But browsing the network without using a name does not work.

I did reinstall all network related software and hardware on the HP, disabled the firewall, removed all HP tools (don't need any of them anyway) but still no luck. Browsing the network does not work on HP but works perfectly on the ASUS. WHY???

And yes, I did google for hours to find a solution. No luck either.

Kind of a simple problem - just looking for someone to agree with my solution

Was doing a minor wireless network for a boarding house... there is one cable modem (a motorolla surfboard) for broadband cable internet access... the ethernet cable goes from there to a Netgear dual band wireless router. Then, another ethernet cable goes upstairs to another wireless router (the first router's range isn't good enough to reach 4 floors up). Connectivity from all network devices is great. I can connect to the wireless upstairs (a Linksys wireless G router) and I can also connect Wired to either the upstairs Linksys router, or the downstairs Netgear router. The problem, however, is that the motorolla surfboard seemed to die.

I was upstairs testing connections the the linksys when I tried pinging out of the network to google.com and cnet.com. The requests started timing out and it appeared that it was the DNS servers that was causing it... I went downstairs and connected wired to the comcast modem, which appeared to have a bad port in the back (the ethernet port was bent in, and the network cable wouldn't clip in firmly). I wasn't getting an ip address from the modem. I was just getting a 169.254 address. I then connected the modem to the internet port of the router down there, then connected wired to the router myself, and went to the router setup page, and checked the status there - the modem was also not giving the router an IP address (even though it had been working fine earlier). I then tried with another ethernet cable, just to be sure, and had the same issue.

Long story short, I left telling everyone that the modem is toast - and in my opinion it really is - but the next day everything on their network was working fine again. My best guess is that the modem is going down hill, and the overnight rest it had was enough to get it to keep going the next day.

So it seems the modem is at fault... anyone else care to second that?

How to Broacast Wireless Connection from computer?

1. a single host computer gets wireless internet connection from a office wireless access point.
2. the host computer broadcasts the wireless internet connection.
3. client computers can log on to the broadcasted wireless internet connection.

What are the network adapters and configuration required on the host computer? I think I have done something like that before using a single Wireless adapter and ICS on Windows XP, but I can't figure it out on Vista.

Which IP should I monitor if i want to set up a login page for the broadcasted signal?

My wireless computer is connected to the internet but I can't update the virus definitions in my anti-virus program. I've tried downloading a different anti-virus program but I can't get to the websites. The wired computer has no problems. I'm using a linksys wireless router. Does anyone have any idea what's wrong? Setting Up A Basic Office Network

Hi Everyone,

i hope somone can help me here before i go crazy.... I work in a Small businesss centre and we have recently moved office from a small pokey room to a 3 room office, much larger and better as we are about to get some more staff.

I am charged with setting up the Office Network as i am about the only person here who knows any thing about PC's but networking has never been my area...

OK i will try and explain my problems as good as i can.. Here goes..

In the old office we had 4 users each with there own PC connected to a 8 port Router with Ethernet Cables running all around the floors and around the Skirting etc.. We also had connected to that a Spare PC which ran a Basic Workgroup Network which we used as a File server and also ran our HP Scanner and HP Printer... Everything worked fine no problems.

We have since moved in to a Larger officer spanning through 3 rooms which the previous Tenants Had there own Ethernet ports installed all around all the walls in every room and linked up to a Cabinet near the ceiling there is a 3 com 24 port Switch on a Rack and also another rack numbered 1-24 which i am guessing is all the Net Ports from the 3 rooms.

I would like to be able to use these Netowrk ports and this rack instead of running ethernet cables through walls etc round desks or making all the PCs laptops Wireless but i cannot get it to work...

At the moment we just have wires every were and a similar setup to the old office.

How do i get the 24 Port Switch to share my net connection and create a network ? I can run 1 cable in to the Rack from the ADSL modem to the rack but what port do i plug it in to 1-24 ? Then how do i set up the Network for the other users ? I have ran a cable from the Point were the internet comes in ADSL in to the rack and put in a basic router (bypassing the 3 com 24 switch) then plugged 4 cables from the router in the corosponding ports in Rack i go to the PCs.. One gets a connection the others just keep dropping connection every 3 seconds.. and never stay stable ? Any ideas. i can provide a lot more info and pictures if req.. I am just totally stuck now. I can quite possibly rule out that all the cables and ports are working and its maybe a soetware or set up ?

I want to discuss my recently encountered problem. I'm a newbie in this forum and IT-related issue so please explain the solution as simple as possible if u can.

My laptop and connection condition :
I have an ACER-aspire 5572NWxMi laptop
I am living in a dormitory and internet is provided by dormitory via LAN cable in every room.
I just reinstalled windows XP SP 2 about 1 month ago.
However, one week ago suddenly I couldn't browse internet although my LAN connection indicator showed connected status (other internet related program, msn, antivirus also couldn't work)

Symptoms are as follows :
Connection status is connected, I can get IP address, gateway, dns and such.
I use dhcp to obtain IP (automatic)
Firewall is turned off.
I can ping localhost, it replies all 4 packets.
I can ping my ip address and gateway as well.
But I cannot ping anywhere else.
ping yahoo.com resulted in "ping request could not find host yahoo.com"
ping "public ip address" resulted in "request time out"

I've tried these actions but the problem is still there:
changing the lan cable
use my friend's laptop with my lan cable and it can connect without problem.
system restoring my computer
fixing winsock
turning off all firewall
uninstalling antivirus
reinstalling windows and all drivers

I attached the results of ipconfig /all here.

Aztech DSL605EW / port opening

I tried to open 2111 port (Aztech DSL605EW); in manual there says go to port triggering enter your settings and click on enable; here's the result:

Conneciton: quickstart

...but when listenig to 2111, there's nothing going on! It doesn't work.

Is there anyone who could help? I'd really appreciate.

Connecting to campus WiFi from long range

How to share Internet connection with Motorola Cable modem?

The problem:
I have Desktop computer connected to my Motorola Cable modem by USB cable (I did not know how to set up the Ethernet connection, when I wanted to remove the USB driver and to set up the Ethernet connection with my modem, it did not want to work)... So, now I have also the Laptop computer (DELL Latitude D620) which I would like to connect to the Internet by sharing Internet connection? I have my Desktop computer equipped with one Ethernet card and running WinXP. The Laptop is also equipped with one Ethernet adapter. In addition, I have also an AT-FS708LE 8 port Fast Ethernet Switch (if it can be of help). Can anyone show me the procedure so I can make both of my 2 computers working on Internet?

BT and VPN Tunnel

Hi all

I got a problem in the UK. We have an office connected to our network with a CISCO ASA VPN router.

In england the ISP subscribtion is a dynamic based ADSL connection from BT. I don't remember the name of the router, but it is wireless as well.

Every night the VPN Tunnel drops out. After a simple restart of the CISCO in the morning the VPN tunnel connects again and will work the rest of the day.

The setup is simple. CISCO outside port is connected to BT routers LAN port. CISCO is set up to be assigned an IP from BT routers DHCP. We also have one device connected directly to the BT Routers LAN and it never loses internet connection.

I have no experience with british ISPs. Anyone got an idea?

How to block a computer from the internet

Is there a way to block one laptop from the internet with my dsl router? It's a Westell Versalink 327w. I have 1 PC and 3 laptops but I want one to be block. The laptop I'm trying to block is already blocked from getting on from wireless but that laptop could still get on using the ethernet cord. Is there a way?
