Today I found and used Google Search History for the first time and found my son's history mixed in with mine. He lives 240 miles away so there is no physical connection. Turns out my use of his machine left a cookie there which in turn allows his searches to be connected with my search history. We were not amused.
Two methods, 1st one involves editing the registry, so again, back it up;

1st method found here; http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...windows-vista/

2nd method: Control Panel/System and Security/Administrative Tools, click on Create and format hard disk partitions, right click the drive you want to hide and remove the drive letter.
To show the drive, just add the drive letter back.

Note: You cannot change/remove a drive letter to a volume that contains System, Boot or Page File.

With this method you can add any custom button to the Explorer Command Bar/Toolbar which I'm sure you have noticed that Vista and Windows 7 have excluded some familiar buttons, including the Delete Button/Icon.

If you just want the "Delete Button/Icon" as I did, then download the following zips and extract the 2 files to any folder. Just make sure the 2 files stay together. Run as Admin., DeleteBTN and follow the instructions. Nothing to install. After its complete, save the zip for future use and delete the 2 files. Thanks goes to Disk4mat.
Too bad it's hampered by User Account Control, which will prevent certain apps from running properly because of a lack of permissions.

Some of you may not know what Services Depend on for other programs to run properly and/or run at all.
This tip will hopefully help you decide to disable a Service that you might have had second thoughts about disabling in the first place;
When in Services, right click on the Service, click Properties to expand and click on Dependencies Tab, if there are No Dependencies listed in either box then it is safe to change to Manual or even Disable.
Check the Disabled Tweaks offered by http://www.blackviper.com/ and http://tweakhound.com/ and it will show that most if not all disabled tweaks have No Dependencies. There are Services not listed in these Tweak Guides, so, this tip is also for those services.
Overall, this is intended to decrease the use of system resources/memory and increase boot time and overall increased performance.

Quote:

Over time unused, but still installed, drivers can cause problems if they inadvertently become enabled. They can cause hardware conflicts or just cause the system to behave erratically. You can locate and remove any old and unused drivers by enabling a special feature in Device Manager that allows it to display non-present devices.
To configure Device Manager to display non-present devices you will need to add an environment variable DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES to the Environment Variables dialog box. Begin by, accessing the Start menu, right-click on Computer, and select the Properties command. When you see the System window, select the Advanced System Settings link. When you do, you'll encounter a UAC and will have to deal with it appropriately.
When the System Properties dialog box appears, click the Environment Variables button. When you see the Environment Variables dialog box, you'll see that it contains two panels titled User Variables and System Variables. Environment variables added to the User Variables panel will be available only when that user logs on. Environment variables added to the System Variables panel will be available to all users.
Click the New button. When the New System Variable dialog box appears, type devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices in the Variable Name text box and type 1 in the Variable Value text box.
Then, click OK twice — once to close the New System Variable dialog box and once to close the Environment Variables dialog box.
To view the non-present devices, access the Start menu, right-click on Computer, and select Manage. When the Computer Management window appears, select Device Manager. Once Device Manager is active, pull down the View menu and select Show Hidden Devices. Now, open the various branches in the Device Manager tree and look for device icons that appear translucent or faded.
To remove the device drivers for any of the non-present devices, simply right-click on the faded icon and select the Uninstall command. Once you are done, close Device Manager and restart your system.

Thanks to Greg Shultz for the tip and morbidbutterfly for passing it on.

The files will then be renamed to the same name you typed with a number in parentheses appended to the end of the name to make up a unique name for each file, i.e. NEWFILENAME (x), with x starting from 1 and running consecutively till every document is named.

To start off, my ISP is Qwest w/MSN Premium, but prior to having Qwest DSL, my ISP was MSN Dial-up, so I've always had MSN.
After reinstalling Vista Ultimate and Win7 from hardware changes, upgrades, etc, I was unable to install my MSN Premium Software, whether it was the disc or the downloaded installer.
At the MSN Installation Wizard, I would continuously receive a pop-up (each time I ran the MSN Installer) stating that I was not connected to the internet (which I clearly was) and the Wizard could not continue, "Error 235"
I then started scouring the internet for an answer, could not find one and also noticed I was not alone.
I called MSN support, they told me that MSN Premium 9.5 was not compatible with Vista or Windows 7. The tech's did not know what they were talking about, obviously.
I called Qwest support, they were about as helpful as MSN was.
I even put in a "Bug Report" to Microsoft, still waiting.
Could not figure out why it would not install as I had it installed before and it worked great.
The changes that were made were hardware, motherboard, cpu, memory, graphics and 1 new hard drive adding to the 2 I have, so it can't be hardware related.
Using the same software programs as before, so it's not a conflict issue.
Which left a Registry setting being the most likely cause, so after many hours of backing up the registry deleting what I thought would be the cause, then restoring what wasn't, I finally found the (you know what) culprit.

On to the Solution. Installing MSN Premium Software 9.5 Successfully

Click Start/Run, type in "regedit" without quotes to open the Registry Editor

Expand: HKey_Local_Machine/Software/Microsoft/Windows(Not WindowsNT)/Current Version/Internet Settings/5.0/User Agent

Inside the User Agent Folder is a folder named "Post Platform" Delete this folder and click Yes to the pop-up. Close the Registry Editor.

Now you can install MSN with no problems.

Remember, this is a Registry change, so do so at your own risk and please back it up.

I am trying to setup an IBM Thinkcentre w/ XP pro for children to play w/ in a church. It will not be connected to the internet, so I am trying to think of other things that should be implemented so the children can simply play the few games and type and such. I know that I will need to disable control panel. Should I install DeepFreeze or Steadystate? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.
