Social Networking Traffic

On my site I provide users the ability to share content on Social Networking Sites and I advertise this in the following order:

Facebook (14,364)
MySpace (100)
Twitter (69)
Digg (1,037)
StumbleUpon (6,102)
Reddit (48)
Delicious (6)

On my site I provide users the ability to share content on Social Networking Sites and I advertise this in the following order:

Facebook (14,364)
MySpace (100)
Twitter (69)
Digg (1,037)
StumbleUpon (6,102)
Reddit (48)
Delicious (6)

The numbers in parentheses are the amount of traffic I got from each site over the past 30 days. I get great traffic from Facebook, Stumbleupon, and Digg, but virtually nothing from the remaining. Is it worth ditching sites like myspace, twitter, reddit, and delicious, and advertising the rest more prominently?? What sites do you think are the most important to target?

Furthermore, although I do well with StumbleUpon, I feel the majority of their traffic is driven from their toolbar, so I'm not sure it's worth advertising it. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. For a better understanding you can visit my site by adding a ".net" after my username.

Thanks!

I am planning to launch a local news website which will be updated atleast 5 times a day.
I am not sure @ estimating revenue at the end of one year.
Is it possible to tell how the Google Adsense revenue is related to no. of visits like 1$ per 1000 visits in a day?
I am taking Google Adsense as the bottomline and not considering affiliate marketing and directly sold banner ads.
Please share your experiences as they will help me immensely.

Thanking you in advance,

Inevitably it was infested with ads for a while.

I do wonder what these companies think they're doing. It must be almost a decade since the satire site B3ta registered introducingmonday.co.uk - a consultancy was rebranding as Monday, put a lot of serious corporate stuff on introducingmonday.com but forgot about the UK equivalent - and people are still being caught out.

I'm a self-employed individual and I manage to renew my domains because the registrars send automatic reminders. I have to ask myself, how easy do the registration companies have to make this stuff..?

I'm building a White Paper for Data Modeling on several problem statements (listed below). I am looking for individuals that would like to contribute either directly or with the development of the paper.

The problem statements are:
1) Compare and contrast standard table based modeling with object oriented modeling techniques. What effects do these techniques have on application performance and growth over time?

2) What methodologies exist to map the object model into the data model such that the data model can be viewed without the need for a data diagram?

3) What factors should be considered when mapping object models into data models?

If you are tired of the plain-Jane look that Google so proudly sports and would prefer something with the pizzazz of Bing, here’s your chance to make it happen. A new contest has just kicked off that asks you to redesign the world’s most popular search engine, with the winner getting to walk away with a brand new MacBook Air.

The contest is being organised by search collator/aggregator WebMynd, which specialises in customizing your Google search options to include better results. Ramping up their ambitions, the company has now launched the RedesignGoogle contest with a post on their official blog:

“ RedesignGoogle lets you completely customize the look of Google Search by installing user-submitted designs from an online gallery. A stripped-down version of the WebMynd add-on applies your installed stylesheet whenever you’re on a Google search results page. (You can enable WebMynd’s other features if you like, but they’re turned off by default.) Currently, RedesignGoogle is available for Firefox, and we’ll be releasing versions of the add-on for other browsers soon.

"If you’re a designer, this is your chance to revamp the most widely used service on the web. Anything that can be manipulating using CSS can be changed with RedesignGoogle. We offer a Web-based CSS editor for creating and previewing your designs, but you’re free to use your preferred tools — just paste your stylesheet into the editor when you’re ready to apply it to your own searches and publish it to the gallery.”

Entries are allowed till the 1st of November and will be judged by a panel of experts from WebMynd and other graphics designers, including Paul Graham.

More details about the contest will be announced shortly, but till then, take a look at a few examples of what’s possible:

How To Sell

Written By paperkool aka Glen Jon

Every exchange requires a transfer of thought. Every transfer of thought is a sell. Babies out of the womb, sell ideas with emotion. If a baby is hungry, what does it do? The baby cries wah wah. The crying alerts mother to the baby’s needs. The baby sold that concept to mother. Understand if the baby cries and the mother does nothing, that’s not a sale.

My writing is essentially in reply to what I saw in a forum. A lady wrote. “I want to work at home, but I don’t want to do sales.” I tried to explain to the lady, in my reply that every exchange you may do is, in effect sales, to one degree or another. You may not think of it in such a manner however, it’s selling. When you apply for a job that you may consider a non sales job, in reality you’re selling your resume or application. No matter what job you may have, it requires you to perform at a level of proficiency that convinces your boss to give you a check on pay day. You must “perform.” Your performance is selling the idea you are qualified. You are selling constantly on a daily basis, weather you know it or not.

Talking to people is selling. Even a Jail Warden sells ideas. Some one may say ”shut up.” No matter how rude the thought is, it should be transferred at a level of coherent understanding. A dog growls at you. You know that means one thing. That growl transferred a thought. That’s what selling is. Selling is merely transferring a thought so the recipient understands it and responds in an acceptable manner. When the dog growls at you and you stand there and do nothing, that’s not a sale. The dog growls and you run.

That’s a sale. The dog convinced you. Selling can be basic or it can be refined. The beauty of selling on the internet is that you can let a pre-recorded message do the work for you. Videos and articles do the selling job. A person will purchase what ever by submitting a check or credit card on line. There is no need to knock on doors or invite people to your living room. You really don’t have to talk to anyone in person, if you don’t want to. Let technology work for you.

I have a new product, called Ladder. Ladder is an information management tool that allows application developers to focus on building Web pages that capture data and present it to end users. Web applications built on Ladder can be extended without changing the existing object model of the application, or affecting existing data. New web applications can add their object model to the tree when and where needed, allowing new applications to capture and present additional detail over time. Data is classified using the same classic Object Model technology used by OOP languages. Thus application developers need to spend less time concerning themselves with data architecture issues, and focus more time on application development issues in the business logic and presentation layers.

Thus far I've been searching for various groups that could use Ladder, and post release announcements. I though was wondering if there were other ideas that other have found successful, interesting, or different that would help in this effort.

Look forward to your comments and suggestions.

Another day, another Gmail outage - well, that's the way it can start to seem. Twitter was all a-quiver with how the system was down; people didn't know what to do about it and one wag put a note up saying the human species can last six days without water but only about eight minutes without Gmail.

OK, I was on a train and assumed the iPhone was playing up, briefly. I now know better. But I'm still not angry with Gmail. I'm just not.

Let's take an objective view of this. I pay for my Gmail but that's only because it's tied in with Google Apps. I can have it for nothing if I choose. I can also have Twitter for nothing, Google Docs and all sorts of stuff.

And guess what. Occasionally - and I do mean occasionally, it just feels like forever when you're going through it - the system falls over. I've seen Twitter failing, I've had difficulty sending Gmail messages out and receiving them for an hour or so at a time, but mostly it works perfectly. I am genuinely a happy customer because I pay peanuts, and that's only because I choose to, and for over 99 per cent of the time, I think, I get a good service.

Very few people seem to be making this point. We're all conditioned to expect professional-grade service for next to no money whatsoever. Maybe it's just me, but if anyone can explain how this excellence is supposed to be sustained over time or why we imagine we have the right to complain, just let me know.

This article was written by me paperkool aka Glen Jon

People are always asking “how do I get more traffic.” That’s the usual question. It’s not magic, although it may appear to be so. Keep in mind the diversity of topics on the world wide web. Search engines pick up on things relevant to what people search for. The engines look for “keywords” and “keyword phrasing.” These are the words that are typed in the search engine when people look for things. The basic concept of getting on organic results is simple yet tedious.

It's a bit difficult giving you a concise answer as to what key words to use, because I don't know exactly what your site is about however, do this. Construct a list of keywords relative to your market. Write blurbs or articles. Target and submit them to "hot" social book marking sites (digg.com twitter etc) and the rest will be automatic. The big engines will pick up on your keywords and organic results will appear.

Key words are powerful magnets. This is a key statement. If a viewer is looking for information on Farming Mushrooms they will not type in Tangerines. They’ll type in “Mushrooms” or “Farming Mushrooms. Titles are powerful magnets also. When you write a blurb or article with the title “Mushrooms, you get categorized in the mushroom category. The search engines will put you there and according to how many other sites are in that category, you will be listed. Try to make your title what a person is submitting in a search. This will make your magnetic hook up easier.

Here’s the trick. High traffic social book marking sites give you the boost. This is where the so called magic comes in. Big search engines take for granite basically, the validity of what ever titles are listed on these site. The search engines grab titles listed on social book marking sites with in minutes. That’s write. Contrary to what most people think, with in minutes, you can have high listing on Top search engines. It sounds crazy but it’s true. It actually blew my mind. I got listed on a particular keyword phrase with in sixty seconds from submission.

Your listing will be proportionate to how much competition you have. You can be a big fish in a small pond, when you select keywords with little or moderate competition. A bunch of them will result in a lot of traffic. This is powerful stuff . Some companies hire people to sit there and submit targeted blurbs all day long. Imagine all of that will amount to crazy mad “targeted traffic.”

I was searching the internet for highest paying affiliate programs on the net and I found this one http://www.equan.biz/idevaffiliate//...ate.php?id=100 once there read the page and click the “Affiliate Program” button and sign up. They pay you $100 just for signing up and $180 per customer that buys. The deal speaks for itself. The website had a 95% increase in traffic last month and growing.
But what I really want to know apart from the shameless plug above, does anyone know of any better affiliate programs which pay out the same if not more commission, but “Recurring” The one above is recurring yearly, but I’m also looking for monthly recurring affiliate programs, Does anyone have a website they know of which lists all the recurring affiliate programs. I’m really looking for non porn related affiliate programs, and ones that actually pay you. Affiliate programs in the IT Recruitment, freelancing, outsourcing type of business is ideal. Yeah I know it could be a needle in a haystack , but my website is ideal for that, I dare plug my own website in case I get blocked, but the above link is the type of website I’m looking for because I can advertise it to my business clients who pay fortunes for PPC marketing, yet banner advertising on up and coming websites I believe is far more profitable for the clients that I advertise to, because you get more targeted traffic , well with banners once the price has been set and paid then its regardless how much traffic that site brings. Looking at the cost per click ratio on a banner such as above compared to PPC, is much cheaper, if my business was geared to the opposite to what I’m selling, then I’d go for it myself.
I’m sure that website above will take over getafreelancer, one day, i just love the fact that anyone like you and me can post jobs for free and bid for freelancing work for free, something getafreelancer isn’t doing, the whole free concept is going to catch on extremely fast, that’s why being an affiliate to their banner add sales will work for me in my field. However its worth considering if even you are a freelancer like myself, I’ve had a couple of programming jobs from that website too, The first one didn’t pay out much, but thankfully the second one did. I guess its persistence and it’s a great way of networking with business clients. Actually while im here, if anyone not only knows good affiliate programs which pay good money but also know of other freelancing sites like getafreelancer and Equan.biz. I think if between us we found a comprehensive list of these sites and ideally free ones like equan that would be great, it would help us all network and prosper
Anyway I’m glad I’ve found this forum, it’s good to see likeminded people here, Thanks

A warning to other companies who are considering taking part in any strategy/ networking meetings organised by IBDG:

Our firm signed up for IBDG’s IT Directors Strategy Meeting, scheduled for February 2010, under the impression that we were dealing with a well respected and professional company and thus wanted to take advantage of the networking opportunity that the meetings on offer would provide. We were dismayed however with the immediate bombardment by the sales team once we had shown initial signs of interest in the proposed meeting. After constant pressure and unscrupulous sales tactics we were forcefully encouraged to sign a contract and provided with a very small timeframe in which to do so. When our firm decided a full seven months prior to the proposed meeting that we were unable to attend due to financial constraints, IBDG used the very same aggressive approach in order to ensure we paid for that which we were in no position to attend.

IBDG demanded to be paid an extortionate ‘cancellation fee’ knowing full well that not only could our firm ill-afford them as a ‘special payment schedule’ had been initially implemented by IBDG on our behalf, but also that IBDG had over seven months to fill any places that may have been vacant as a result of our firm’s withdrawal from the meeting.

This is bad business practice at its very worst.

I would be extremely wary in conducting any business with the firm after such a dreadful experience with them.

The classic marketing model was outbound oriented and generally consisting of an inside sales force calling on prospects and customers, telemarketing, tradeshows, seminars, trade publication advertising and publicity and broadcast advertising.

Over the past few years, electronic marketing has become an essential part of the marketing mix. Marketing efforts for even the most traditional companies is shape shifting into an inbound marketing model consisting of search engine optimization, pay-per-click ads, blogging, social media and targeted landing pages.

As electronic marketing increases in sophistication, more can be done to attract prospects with less money in more creative ways. Here are just five inbound marketing techniques geared toward increasing your web traffic and revenue:

1. Search engine optimization (SEO)
2. Pay-Per-Click (PPC)
3. Blogging
4. Social Media
5. Targeted Landing Pages
Web analytics has, of course, been around almost since the beginning of the move to e-commerce and companies launching their first static websites. And though many software companies flocked to the marketplace, they probably moved too quickly. Organizations were not ready to leverage the vast amounts of information pouring out of their web applications. Many of these vendors did not survive more than a few years.

But the pursuit of web analytics has turned out to be more than tracking the number of visits, and the marketplace has seen a huge variety of open source technologies to help with the challenge of analyzing behavior on the web.

Google Ad Sense is when a web site owner opens an account with Google to place advertisement on their web site. When a person clicks this advertisement, the web site owner gets an average commission of .45 cents. A web site that gets a lot of traffic, they can easily make $150,000 per month.

There are message boards claiming to be informing the public about scams being done by companies or individuals. These web sites have individuals working for them for the sole purpose of targeting companies or individuals in order to generate traffic to the web site. This method is artificially generating traffic to the web site, this is FRAUD as outlined by Google. The higher the traffic, the higher the percentage of individuals that will click onto the Google advertisements.

Additionally, Individuals post copy right information about a company on these types of web sites; this is against the policy of the Google Ad Sense program.

If you believe that you are being targeted by individuals on a particular web site; simply click the Ads by Google in the bottom right hand corner of the advertisement on the web site. You will be taken to a Google page, click onto: Report a policy violation regarding the site or ads you just saw

File a report and the Google Fraud Department will investigate

Twitter founder Biz Stone has confirmed that the network might take advertising at some stage. More specifically he's refused to say it won't. The company has just revised its terms and conditions and as part of the overhaul Mr. Stone has said on a blog that he's keeping the door open to advertising. So he's not saying no, he's not saying yes.

This is an entirely sensible view to take since neither he nor anyone else can predict the direction a company will take at only two years old. Markets change, conditions change so of course he's keeping an open mind.

The Twitter community doesn't seem all that pleased.

This is going to be a bigger issue. Twitter and the rest of the social networking world has built itself a substantial problem. Everyone, by now, expects these things to be available without charge and mostly advert free. And I'm here to tell you, people, it isn't going to happen. Initial investments in these various start-ups were made way before the financial climate turned septic but even then it's massively unlikely that these businesses were set up without any thought of ever turning into profit.

It's going to look odd, in history, when we turn around and reflect that in a few very short years we all had free Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, YouTube, mail from Google and goodness knows what else. It's going to look even odder that we took it for granted. Sometime over the next few years we're going to have to decide in what way it's going to be acceptable to pay for it all; it'll be interesting to watch the resistant users in these communities as the financial realities start to bite.

I have been submerging myself to different kind of money making on the website. At first, I was very confident that I could do it because I'm just staying at home. When I first joined affiliate marketing to different types of programs, I found myself kinda lost. I tried very hard to follow steps but since I am a beginner (and presently unemployed) I don't have enough money to use. There are a lot of different programs that are free to sign up, however, as I am following the steps... I'm losing again....I got a lot confused...thinking that if I am not able to complete these requirements...I would still fail..on the other hand its only free for a month or so...ending up in payment afterwards...Its not really a problem if I invest a little amount or not...what I'm worried about is if I can eally make it....

These are the two possibilities: you either get paid for allowing other business owners to advertise on your site or you can include the blog in one of the many affiliate programs you’ll promoting. You can use your blog as part of an affiliate program, which involves promoting the products or services of a specific business. You can increase the profitability of the ads on your blog by taking advertising into consideration when you design you site. One thing I notice about some blogs is that the fonts and colors used for the ads should be only slightly different from the rest of the page, without standing out. why? Because the more visible you make them, the more likely it is that they'll annoy the user, and the entire purpose of your blog is to get people to spend QUALITY TIME on the page. See ya’ll next week! Holla

I'm Glen Jon the author of the following and thought I'd post this article, all though it has been published many times before on other sites.

There is no easy way out. If you don't want to spend any money online advertising, your alternative is to spend time with free ads. Either you spend money or spend time. I find it better when I don't have to spend money. Some folk think that spending money is better, however what happens to most folk who spend money is pathetic. They usually never make a profit. I regret to say this, but it is the stark internet truth of today. Of course there are the skilled few that out smart "the world of pay per click and news paper ads." The bare fact remains that the vast majority of people spending money on advertising usually go in a hole online.

The cost of everything now days is disproportionate to the actual average income. Why spend money on advertising only to break even or lose your shirt. Believe me it hurts when you lose your shirt. An actual 3% return is only reflected in 3% of who you reach. Setting up PPC (paid per click) ads only guarantees that someone will click and you have to pay. The people that click may or may not sign up for your list. The infamous 3% is merely a representation of people that actually got to read your sales material.

First you must get someone to click your PPC ad, then you must get someone to submit their email address, afterwards you must get the prospect to confirm. Then they may see your email that could get lost in a spam filter. Hence you have a scenario like sperm fertilizing an ovary. Only a very small percentage reach and make contact. Maybe not as difficult, but the picture is more like .001 percent of every click becomes a sale. Yeah that's right. don't let these so-called gurus fool you. No matter how intriguing you think your sales material is, today you can still lose your shirt on paid ads. This is why I promote free advertising.

Free advertising cost you nothing but time. You automatically make a profit upon any sale because of the fact that you spend no money.

The main thing you must control in free advertising is tracking. If you don't track, you have no way of knowing where to accentuate your effort. You don't want to waste time advertising something somewhere that bares no fruit. Tracking allows you to see exactly what is working and when it works. This way, you can "make the most of your time."
