My suggestion would be to uninstall and reinstall WMP11b. Sometime the codec's WMP uses to play video files develop problems, and reinstalling WMP will get rid of those problems.

Yes if the CPU overheats, it will freeze. and, no, it doesn't need to be replaced. You just need to replace the CPU fan.
