I agree, do both things simultaneously... PPC can also give some insights you can use in SEO (e.g. good call-to-action phrases etc.)

Your PageRank may get penalized. While it may not hurt your SERPs much, you will no longer be able to sell text links for as much.

Possibly if you make a great interesting youtube video that is controversial... and then have some flair for spinning the press, you may have a shot... at getting enough momentum for it to take off.

I would spread out where your incoming links come to. Go with most relevant when possible :) Having links to e.g. articles is great since they also then stand a better chance in search engine result...

Just use no-follow links if in doubt, be sure to tell your advertiser though. They did bring down PR of many text link sell websites... However, they won't be able to detect 100% natural text links...
