If you're using Firefox and have Firebug installed (which you likely do) look under the "Console" tab and check the response from the server. If it's empty or the response code isn't 200 something's...

Make sure XAMPP is running AND make sure you don't have another instance of httpd running. I think on Fedora you find this info under "Services." If you can't find it there try this at the command...

Justin, It isn't a URL or domain -- it's the absolute path to a directory; i.e. "/var/www/htdocs/images" or "/home/justin/sites/images".
