save the document and then just change the extension name in the finder.
Note: this does work in Windows.. just rename the file where ever it resides instead of trying to force Note Pad to save it... |

The more recent your photo apps, the more likely the drivers (extensions) are to be the culprit.
However, to get through, does your flash card show-up on the desktop...where you can just drag images... |

I think my two-year old hit some combination of keys as the keyboard on my Windows XP machine just make clicking noises but generate no type on screen.
