on the n1015v it was by the modem, which was behind one of the back panels on the bottom of the case.

yep if its constantly on then it will be like pressing and holding the power button to knock the PC off.

The old screwdriver power on technique will verify if you have a serious problem or not.

It's doubtful that it is the power supply as he said it does it with or without the power supply in, i.e running off batteries.

the jumpers he refers to would be where you connect the leads from the power button and front panel of the case into the MOBO. If these are wrong you dont get much life out of the system.

yep check all things thermal first (fans, vents etc) clean out all dust from the system, I find a little WD40 sprayed into the bearings of the fans helps give it a new lease of life.
