Re: Connect to office from home

VPN is the way to go. You may be able to configure this on your router if it's capable. The router can authenticate or you can use a RADIUS server to authenticate.

Re: Connect to office from home

The computers in the office probably have a internal IP address (e.g. 192.168.1.#). Is that correct? You won't be able to connect to them remotely using their internal IP addresses. One option is to...

Re: Computer random crashes

Disconnect all non-essentially hardware and go from there. Once, you're sure the crashes have stopped, start reconnecting one at a time until you figure out which one is causing the problem.

What troubleshooting have you tried?

Have you checked to make sure that the correct drivers are installed for the card? Go to the Device Manager and see if there is an error icon next to the sound card.

What do you mean by "disconnect from the net"? Most DSL connections are always on. Does the problem occur when you close Internet Explorer (or whatever browser you're using)?

Does it exhibit this behavior if you boot into Safe Mode? There are the obvious attempted fixes: Scan Disk and a registry cleaner (I use RegSeeker). Also, are you protected against viruses?

Re: old computer on the way to landfill

IIRC, there are utilites out there that will allow you to boot to a DOS prompt and wipe the drive. For such slow systems, Linux or Win 98 does seem like a better choice then Win 2K.
