We are missing some important information...

Is this possibly a usb keyboard that requires drivers or something like that...

Still confused here..
If you were reformatting you were erasing the OS...
Does your keyboard work if you boot to a command prompt only?

I would boot to the floppy or cd and start over with a fresh format....
If you crashed in the middle of a format then you MUST do a full format of the drive for it to be a stable system.

Thank you for your help.
I now have the computer up and running.
It still freezes and restarts itself sometimes but it used to do that before the reformatting.

It sounds like you have an overheating cpu, I would pull the heat sink, clean and reinstall with new grease...

It will continue to corrupt your os if it keeps locking up and crashing...
