Hi everyone,

I am a 3D artist and I'm at the early staged of developing an unreal 'total coversion' so essentially a new game powered by the Unreal Technology.

I have been working with a writer to develop a story based around a world powered by steam technology. I have included a brief synopsis of the 5 main cultures in this game to give you an idea of the world we are trying to create.

I have created a few models already but my knowledge of Unreal is limited.

I am looking for a couple of key people to help with this game. First of all is an experienced or qualified game designer who knows what gameplay elements will fit this game and its story. We have ideas for gameplay but we are not game designers so we are kind of taking stabs in the dark. We need someone to make some decisions on the gameplay side of things.

We are also looking for a concept artist to visualise the world and characters.

Now this is a completely voluntary team so the only thing I can offer in return is a useful way to create examples of work and to gain experience if you are looking to get into the games industry professionally.

If you are interested then please send me an email at trent.atwood@gmail.com

Here is a glimpse of the world...

(Fyfe)
Sees itself as an elitist state and superior to the other Houses. Fyfe has superior wealth, scholarly research and military strength. Has a well-organised military with knights, squires, archers – classic medieval stuff. Its government is founded on a ruling monarchy and noble class, much like our middle ages. Its citizens, even the working classes, enjoy good living conditions and a comfortable lifestyle. However, even though Fyfe has a strong military presence, it has the least number of overall citizens by a considerable margin. It is also much smaller geographically.

(Praedyn)
The largest of the three Houses, both in terms of size and population (bigger than Tork and Fyfe combined). Originally formed when six smaller tribes banded together, although that was a long time ago. These days Praedyn is ruled by a council, which is attended by members of each of the tribes. It’s the closest to what we would consider a democracy, but Praedyn falls short of open democratic elections. Has the largest gap in terms of living conditions, some do well, others not so. This can sometimes lad to friction along old tribal lines, but this never goes far – all six tribes know that their strength lies in unity; either Tork or Fyfe could roll them if the splintered.

(Tork)
The most insular of the three Houses. Founded on a religion. Has a high degree of wealth, citizens have good conditions but must dedicate a considerable amount of personal time and money toward the church. Also has a strong military presence. It’s rumoured that Tork High Priests are able to wield arcane power (Arcane), but as the Houses have lived in relative peace for so long, no-one actually knows if this is true. It is also highly unlikely, as the use of Arcarna has been banned for around two thousand years.

(Patchers)
The Patchers Guild are steam engineers. They’re responsible for building and maintaining the steam technology in Meridia. The Guild exists as an independent body outside direct the control of the three Houses.

When steam was harnessed, they offered their services to all Houses (for a price) and in return delivered steam power and all its benefits. The Guild grew quickly as new members were quickly brought in and trained. It also gained in wealth. Using massive pipelines, steam was fed back to the cities. Technology advanced quickly. Steam was used for virtually everything; as heating, to generate electricity (simple stuff), and to power all manner of pneumatic machinery.

Today the Guild operates as an independent body outside direct control of the three Houses. It has no lands of its own, but it does have numerous chapter houses inside the
territories of all three Houses. Patchers have free access throughout the lands of all Houses to maintain steam power. And they are seen favourably by all citizens of Meridia. They have brought great progress and benefits.

(The outer provinces)
Outside the territorial boundaries (and protection) of the three Houses lie the outer provinces. It’s the Wild West out there. Covers a large geographic area, pretty much all types of terrain at one point or another. From time to time, one of the Houses sends people out there to gather resources. Other times people head off to explore, most don’t come back. The upshot is very little is known about what’s out there beyond the immediate boundaries of the Houses. Rumours are rife.

I am and the writer is, so that makes 2 people working for free to gain experience. I'm sure there are other entusiastic people around who want to put themselves a head of everyone else.

Also, there are thousands of people working on games for free all the time. The mod community is an example of this. And this game is basically a mod.

If anyone else wants to post a negative response then please research your opinion first to make sure it is valid.
