Borland 5.5

Hello all;

I'm new to this list & C++. I am looking for a windows XP compatible editor (free is best). I tried to download Borlands C++ 5.5 but unable to get the email that is supposed to come (I see others have had the same problems).
I'm just trying to kill time in the hospital by learning something new. I have some knowledge of VBA and limited HTML.
Could anyone suggest an editor I can download for free to get started?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

TIA
Pete (turbeauxpete@yahoo.com)

"One of the methods used by statists to destroy capitalism consists in establishing controls that tie a given industry hand and foot, making it unable to solve its problems, then declaring that freedom has failed and stronger controls are necessary." --Ayn Rand
