Screen saver/transparent window...Help!

 After updating from 10.1.5 to panther, and after restart I got a nice surprise. It seems any window/page I am looking is at is transparent (so I can see the desktop below). That wouldn't be so bad if the desktop isn't all of a sudden random animated screensavers. I never set these options anywhere. I've tried various sys preferences, even shut off the screensavers. Didn't change anything. Anyone have any advice, suggestions? I'm running an eMac. Thanx

well, now that u mention it... I did. I've since trashed them while in OS 9. The two problems are fixed, but I'm left with a black desktop. I wonder how to fix that since I did choose a picture but it isn't visible for some reason. Any thoughts would be appreciated...
thanx
