Noob can't network

I'm trying to connect my laptop (WinXP Home) to my PC(WinXP Pro) and then connect to the net through my PC. I have Belkin 54G Wireless Network Cards in both machines. Both machines are set up in the same room also.

I've installed both cards but they can't see each other (do I need a router?). My firewalls are turned off on both machines also.

Please help?!?!?!

Theoretically, you don´t need a wireless router. However, practically, it is something that I would recommend. You won´t have any problem once you put a router in the setup...
