I had a similiar problem when trying to upgrade to xp pro. Are you upgrading or doing a clean install. If this your first time installing xp onto this machine you probably just reformat and try again. If this an upgrade then re-install the regular version upgrade all your drivers and try again (make sure to back up data in case similiar problem occurs). And as far as I know that is pretty much all you can do and hope that it turns out for the best, maybe someone with more computer knowledege will come along with a more definite solution.
