DirectX... haha... DirectX is a beast which, while can be tamed, takes a lot of effort and dedication to master. If you have the DirectX SDK, take a look at the tutorials... typically under DXSDK\Samples\C++\Direct3D\Tutorials
Take a look at these online tutorials as well. They are a good starting point for DirectX/Direct3D.
