Well the first thing is to get to the very basics....
Go into your BIOS and make sure the drive is being detected there. If it shows up there, you have a software or O/S issue.
If it does NOT appear in BIOS, then you have a hardware issue, and hope its just a loose cable and not a failed hard drive.
If it does show up, let us know what O/S you are using.

Linear Mode
