I've used several hosts, with mixed results. I now use only 1and1. They offer lots of space, lots of bandwidth, great features and even free software, all at very reasonable prices. Support is sufficiently responsive, and I have never had a problem with them "holding on" to any domain name I've registered. (I have had that problem with another company though) As far as I have investigated, I don't know of any reason to use another host.
Obviously, different users have different needs and different experiences, resulting in different levels of satisfaction with various hosts. Therefore, it should be concluded that there is really no definitively "best" host. If the boat you're on is floating, stay on it. If you're looking for a host, then do your research and don't hesitate to ask questions and compare the features most important for your project. Any potential host that won't answer your questions or can't provide a satisfactory answer should simply be removed from consideration. You need a host that can at least make you feel that they care as much about your web presence as you do. If they deliver, then so much the better.

I have been hosted with PlanetGAC for over 2 years now, since I won a domain and a year free hosting at their gaming forums. I would highly recommend them to anyone. If you want to know more about my experience with them feel free to PM me or email me at admin@ paradoxiconline.com.

powweb' has TONS of problems if your bulletin board or website will ever be huge
dreamhost << more problems than i want to get into
dont even get me started on lunrapages, they just dont know what the HELL they are talking about in any sense
They want LARGE vBulletin based forums to switch to phpBB because, phpbb is LESS server intensive, so they say.
And if you dont switch to their "larger" plan to use vBulleitn they will revoke your account.
Sorrry, but do you recommend any good TOTALLY FREE webhosting allowing PHP with a Cpanel and maybe Fantastico?
I am very poor, only 16 and I can't afford anything! I miraculously got a domain, lol!
Well, I had someone hosting my site like this I am asking but suddenly I got problems with the host and now every time I try to contact the guy through AIM he avoids me, logging off. I think he blocked me. So rude...I am again without hosting and using that ugly bravenet with ads at the top of the page.
I need PHP for the banner exchange service I want to make and to see if I can get better services for my members, maybe better forums, too...

What kind of site do you own? If it's a fansite then there's lots of hosting. But i doubt it is lol
I believe the host I work for, www.ayksolutions.com, is a great place to pick. We provide great feature-rich packages for a very affordable price. Our support is always prompt and to the point.
You forgot your </blatant advertising> tag.

Ok, here it is: </blatant ad>. Happy? Don't know why some people get all worked up about nothing, I've seen plenty of others do that as well.
