Installation Problems with VB 6.0 and XP!!!

I have a working model of Visual Basic 6.0 that came with my textbook that I have from ITT Tech. Im trying to install it but i keep getting a window that reads:

16 bit Windows Subsystem
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications.

I am running Windows XP Home Edition (Service Pack 2).
Why can't I install this program? Others that were also running XP got it to work. If anyone can help me out please I would greatly appreciate it.

r u sure they not running XP Pro, as XP Home has a lot of features missing, this is why a lot of programming languages won't work under XP Home.

My advice is to install XP Pro
