Small Display on the monitor

I just installed Windows XP in a Toshiba Satellite 4100XDVD laptop. The windows video output is not being displayed on the full size of the monitor. There is a 1" black band around the entire desktop area. Is there a way to expand the video out to get the full use of the monitor?

Have you updated the Video Driver on the laptop? Besides updating it via Windows Update go to your laptop manufactor site and get a updated driver that should honestly clear this problem. It's at least one of the things I would do.
