Applying float to an element will make other elements below that element float "left/right" of that element.

For example...

CSS
-----

#photo {float: left;}

-----
XHTML
-----

<img id="photo" scr"image.jpeg" />
<p>Duis molestie ligula nec nunc. Vivamus egestas enim ac dolor. Maecenas et purus. Aenean vel mi ultrices purus varius sagittis.</p>

-----

Should present something like this...

||||||||| Duis molestie ligula nec nunc. Vivamus
||||||||| egestas enim ac dolor. Maecenas et
||||||||| purus. Aenean vel mi ultrices purus
varius sagittis.

I'm not sure if that helps you at all, and if you already knew what I described I didn't mean to patronise you. Perhaps you could post some images of your situation?
