When you say "e-commerce project", what do you mean? Are you building a merchant site? a payment gateway? an e-wallet system? It's tough to answer that question without some kind of clarification as to what you are trying to do.

Building a payment gateway is a pretty major undertaking. You need to get PCI and CISP certified by the card associations. I hope that you realize that AFTER you write all the software and set up all of the required secure hosting, it will take thousands of dollars and months of time.

You may want to do some serious research before considering this.... unless you have some funding behind you.

Are you going to have your own merchant account from a bank? If yes then my advice is don't program the payment gateway yourself, as there is many fraud issues you may not aware of and your merchant bank may not happy with. The easier way is getting a third party payment gateway to do it.

If you are using Paypal or the similar then there are some program out there for you to buy or download. My sites (see below) may able to assist you with minimum effort.
