Delete the gamerival folder. I didn't know the full name as it didn't show in the log.
This has nothing to do with solitaire etc. If you go to Add/Remove programs choose windows components & reinstall those games that way. Hopefully you have your CD if needed.
HJT should not have damaged them in any way, nor the other removal tools. Never heard of it happening B4.

It's a good idea also once you are clean to create a new restore point on your system, then do your M$ update.

Hi there.....
Have now done the above - deleted GameRival. Have set a meaningful Restore point and kept it in a safe place. Re-booted and installed the latest Windows updates okay.
Just 3 questions for you:-
1- Do I run Ad Ware 6.0 regularly , and if so, how often ?
2- What about HijackThis , regular , if so, how often ?
3- Can I get rid of a Registry mechanic softawre now from my PC ?

Lastly, I will await your answers on the above before closing this off for good.
I want to say Thank You big time , you have helped me tremendously.

best regards...

I run Adaware at least once a week, first checking for updates. Spybot is another excellent program that works hand in hand with Adaware. You can get it here Update it B4 scanning. Go into settings & have it check for Beta releases also & download if available.
After the scan is complete, have spybot fix everything marked RED.
On the page that first opens when you start Spybot there is an option to immunise, you should do this. In the immunise section there is also a link to download Spywareblaster. Download that & you can keep it updated by selecting the same link that you use to download it.
HijackThis is only for those times when your in trouble & Adaware & spybot don't fix it.
Registry mechanic I know nothing about & so cannot comment.

Anyway, I am glad to have been able to help.

I have learnt a lot and have taken heed of your advice above.
Hope I will never get this problem again, and if I do , I will try
and solve it myself first.
Thanks a million........you've all been great.
