scan went a little further.
computer crashed again with the message:
KERNEL_INPAGE_ERROR
atapi.sys (some numbers)
fixing problem now...

sry but i wont be able to reply sooner
cuz i have to catch a flight tomorrow and there wont be any internet access at the destinaton i'm going to
i'll be back in 10 weeks or so to give you the report. thanks for helping
