trainers directory
hi there,
i have done a few online tutorials and created my own site. it is a directory for racehorse trainers in australia.
pretty basic and has taken me a log time to construct ( pretty sure ive taken the long way round ) maybee thats the best way to learn.
the reason i have joined this forum is to learn a bit more.
i have a ? and would like to know what section of the forum would be best to post it.
my site is www.racehorsetrainer.com.au and i am offering trainers with web sites the opportunity to have a link with thier name to their site and the trainers without their own site can have a profile page linked to their name which i build for them.
my ? is can a trainer i have built a web profile page for change a portion of the page himself.
the reson i ask is some horse trainers would like to do a newsletter every sunday night and associate it with there profile page.
here is a page i built for rob price http://www.racehorsetrainer.com.au/n...t/robprice.htm if he could have a button on there that opened a new page with news that he could update himself via e-mail he could keep his horse owners upto date. thanks for your time and please keep in mind this is my first attempt at building a site.

Hello “gallopers”… I think your site is interesting and it has good ideas.. not bad for someone new at this
… you are on the right track..
About your question: You have 2 solutions:
The old and simplest away – you will use layers or ilayers (see html reference) to load the parts of a page that your trainers will built. This away you will be sure that your page design will always be the one you made. The trainers can do their own page on Microsoft Word (saving it as web page), and upload it to your site by FTP (ask your host service provider how you can configure your FTP account ).
This way they can change any time they want the content of their own page.
The second solution is server side technology, by example PHP or ASP. This is more complex but it’s the best solution… You can find lots of php free and ready to use sites on the web… Maybe you can find one that fits you…
I have pointed out the easiest solutions to your question, now you have search and acquire some knowledge about it. I believe that searching and reading different articles it is the best way to learn about those solutions…
Another thing , I would like to suggest you to start using sub-domains to point to trainer’s pages. By example: instead of http://www.racehorsetrainer.com.au/n...t/robprice.htm simply use http:// robprice.racehorsetrainer.com.au this away it will be easiest to find the trainer’s page.. don’t you think?

Ok.. glad to ear that
I recommend you to use PHP, MYSQL and Dreaweaver from Abode (start by downloading and installing dreamweaver http://www.adobe.com/products/dreamweaver/), once you have it installed, open dreamweaver, then go to HELP, select dreamweaver Help, and it will open a new window with the help “page”. In this window select the index tab, and select Preparing to Build Dynamic Sites.
First you will have to read this section: Setting Up a Web Application, and after that read Database Connections for PHP Developers. They will teach you how to install PHP and MYSQL on your pc…
You will find tutorials to start work on PHP and MYSQL in the following sections of dreamweaver help:
Making Pages Dynamic and Developing Applications Rapidly
With this tutorials you will start to know how to work with dreamweaver and php. I believe that you should start from here…
Tutorial pages, there are plenty on the web but I recommend:
http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Tips_and_Tutorials/index.html
http://www.devarticles.com/c/b/PHP/
http://www.scripts.com/php-scripts/
the last recommendation:
http://www.php.net/manual/en/index.php -- you can find here the reference of PHP, all you need to know …
