Well, near as I can see, the "Rep Power" thing doesn't hold much bearing; i.e. there are plenty of people around who are above 1.4k posts, who have maybe two bars. It seems like the Rep isn't very much thought of, both by administrators and by peers. Correct me if I'm wrong; I've been here for two days so it's quite possible.

You are nearly right. Rep power has only just started to get going, it was a mostly ignored feature of Daniweb. But things have been happening to promote it. Currently if you post in the C++ forum (non-spam) this month (September 2006) you will automatically get 3 rep points for each post !!
