They did that at our college. As they only block the proxy changing on IE, we downloaded portable firefox (download here), and could then change the proxy settings through that. (And browsing with firefox is so much nicer) This an be run from your user space, or from a USB drive.
Remember - The simplist method is often the easiest.
What do you put in these proxies? I am quite confused really about the proxy things. I don't really know how to configure the proxy of any internet browser.
I also tried to go into a few anonymous proxies but the filter regarded going to these servers as loopholes. This is quite a hassle for a person who just wants to checck their emails regularly or go onto forums
O h and i also to use firefox portable via my mp3 player, therefore, i am able to use firefox with ease. or try to anyways. I haven't been able to actually use the internet with firefox just yet

After reading the dig article "Kids Outsmart Web Filters" which links to a CNet News Article. I was wondering what measures you have used or know that have been used to bypass internet filters. I have the sole interest of securing internet access in my schools.
Thanks guys!

I've had a lot of success using Dan's Guardian (with Squid) on FreeBSD for schools. Drives kids crazy :)

Well to get around school filters I just use..
www.nickoli.net scroll over search and click puppies then click continue to search engine, and theres a html cgi proxy. Just go to google first and then you can go any where through google. IE type gamefaqs.com in google and then click search and then click or wherever you want to go. Works for me 100% of the time.

To restrict Internet access at a school, perform the following:
HTH.
- Remove end-user admin/power rights
- Disable external drives/storage (ROMs, USB, floppies, etc.)
- Upload a custom HOSTS file to each system that only allows access to the filtering server (local or remote)
- Preconfigure the system's DNS settings and prevent end-users from modifying them
- Install or use hosted-filtering software. For the first 6 weeks, put it in 'watch mode' and archive all of the typical websites users visit. Then enable filtering and create rules to block those sites.
HTH.
