Hard drive acting SLOWW...why?

I installed a 250gig(reads as 232) IDE hard drive into my computer as a secondary drive... and it runs CONSIDERABLY slower than my other drive.

There's a different hookup... the new one uses a regular ribbon(I don't know the technical term) while the other one uses something that looks more like the power supply cable.

I mean, it takes several minutes to move any files onto it, and I scanned it on various websites and was told that there's some sort of problem...

So... I'm assuming there's something very obvious I missed or didn't do while installing it...

Any suggestions?

It could just need defragged, but if this is a fresh drive then those websites just might be right. You could've bought a faulty drive. Go to the manufacturer's website and see if they have a diagnostic tool. Run it and see what kind of code you get and try to RMA.

There's 3 types of drive connectors:

IDE - the ribbon
SCSI - also ribbon but vary in widths
SATA - a much thinner cable, about 1/4" wide
