I have Troj_Generic and Hacktool.rootkit on my computer. I previously had Hacktool.rootkit before and got rid of it very easily, but this time nothing works. For Troj_Generic, I checked the PCillin website for a solution to fix it, but none of those work too. It simply says to update your scanner. I currently have disabled SystemRestore as I was told to disable it, and after I delete some things in Hijack this, and restart, the viruses come back again. It also causes major lag in the computer processes, and is a very annoying problem. The virus itself is not that very harmful, but of course, I need to get rid of it.

Ok. Not too bad.
First move HJT to a permanent folder such as C:\HJT\ or somthing similar. Now run HJT and place a checkmark next to the following.

I want to do what you told me, but I can't yet. I did use HJS to delete what you told me to, but my AVG scan is going on for 5 hours and counting. In Norton's quarantine, there are 117000 backupfiles.... There is no delete all function, so do I have to delete everything manually? I really don't know how there is 117000 backup files... In the AVG Scan so far, there are 98 infected objects. Now I can barely do anything, and it took 10 minutes itself to reach this page because of the process lag. I really need to fix this.

First of all Norton is the worst firewall protection available. GEt mcafee or something better. Norton takes up more memory than any other thing and its protection is third rate. AVG is fine let in run and then delete everything it finds. There is a norton removal tool that you can get by googling norton removal tool. That should help the process lag.

AVG scan has been on for 22 hours and it still didn't finish because of the process lag. I deleted 50,000 infected backup files so far in the norton quarantine, and there is 40,000 more to go. After I delete all files in the norton quarantine, and delete everything in the AVG scan, do I just restart my computer with system restore disabled? I'm also planning on getting something else too, I really don't like Norton, but somebody got me a free copy of the full Norton from their business office so that's why I was using Norton.

First press alt+crtl+del and end any norton porcesses. Then cancel the avg scan and delete the ones its found so far. If you can get to Start>Run. Then type in Msconfig and enter. A box will pop up. go to the start up tab and uncheck all of the norton processes and avg processes. Now turn off your computer and turn it back on. That should get rid of the process lag. From there we should be able to get a beter hold of things.

I did everything you said. After I restarted, the Norton popup comes back up saying Hacktool.rootkit is found again, and the Tred Micro PC-cillin popup came up saying it found TROJ_Generic. Does this mean that the virus came back? I deleted everything before restarting...
