I have read an article like that a couple of years ago. But everything is changing now and browser sizes are actually getting bigger!

I really like how you have rounded out the design. The top nav looks much better than what I currently have, and it might be nice if the bottom nav were to match.
Also, the Carve out your niche compartment is a huge improvement. I really like the large all caps text of, ISN'T IT YOUR TIME TO...
Very nice.
I still feel like something needs to happen with the two text blocks.
The What is FreelanceJobsUSA block , and I am considering dropping the Specialization + Repetition = perfection block altogether.
The other thing I like about the blog style is that is seems as though it might be easier to build out extra content through the use of compartments.
For example I have color-coded maps of the all the tops cities and states for web based freelances in the USA. Maybe a stats box would be a nice compartment to add. It could also include free research and user generated reports.
An actual blog would be nice to communicate all the latest happenings on the site.
Maybe a feature job and profile section on the front page. Also, how to, articles and other things that would be of interest to someone who freelances.
An example article might be
The 5 Day Invoice
How reduce payment wait times by 95%. With average Invoice to payment cycles around 45 days blah, blah, blah…
You get the idea. The challenge for me is how to incorporate useful information into my design without it looking all cluttered.
I just don't know where to put the extra compartments. That's the $100 dollar question. Do you think I can add a couple of content boxes below the Find Jobs box? Or if there is another place to put extra compartments please let me know.
Thank You so much.
Kyle

The home page.
For me its a visual focus thing. The focus is the logo and the 'Post' buttons, but the menu above and the text below distract my eye so that everything seems to be floating in the middle a great big white space. Don't loose the white space though, it's what make the design work.
'Blog' style design is all about compartments. There has been research done that shows that we don't read the web, we scan it. Compartments help focus the eye. (But then compartments are also built on the 'grid' comcept, which some folks like, and some don't, which is another story...) Take a look at the following. I'm not completely happy with it, but it'll give ya an idea about what I mean. It's 780px wide so that it fits at 800x600. I did it in Fireworks 8, so you 'should' be able to open it. (famous last words...) Ya can turn the layers at the bottom on and off for a variation on the same theme.

The fonts do seem a bit on the big side, body text is usually set at 9pt-10pt. But you wouldn't get any arguments from folks that prefer large print.
The layout is just a smidge too big when viewed at 800x600 (does anyone still design for that anymore. Now there's a topic for a flame war.... If you use Firefox, (and are running at 1024x768 or bigger), the 'Web Developer' extention has a Resize screen tool to help ya see what your site will look like at other resolutions. Even if your running at 800x600 its still a really useful extention for developing.

Picked it up from the Archer. Rounded boxes are probably outta fashion by now, but there are still times when they work.
Nice way to frame the page.
Me too.
Ah! the plot thickens.
Sounds like the little grey cells are workin overtime.

"The more time spent away from the drawing board, the better the design."
Find a nice big wall space. Clear off all the pictures and stuff that are on it. Gather up the ideas you wrote here and all the other ideas you have and put them on sticky notes. Stick 'em all on the wall, and then stand back about 6 feet. Think about them for a while. Then, get outta the house. Go for coffee. And then come back and look at the wall again.
Hey! What can I say? Works for me.
You're welcome.

I personally like the old design the best. Looks easier to use.

Thanks for the feedback. So what do you think of the idea behind the site overall, and do you think the site would work better if the site were to implement tagging vs the fixed categories which are currently in place.
Thanks

You still need to change it back to the old design.
I would concentrate on getting some members rather than on tagging. That could be something you integrate at a later date. You need to get some advertising and people signed up!

Can't wait for the English version.
BUt then... I'm just a little prejudiced that way.
Nice and clear and effective.
And.... no waiting for the pages to load either. BONUS!
