Exposing my data with LDAP

  #1
Feb 3rd, 2007
Hi all, i encounter a big problem weher I thought it would be simple; I very much hope someone here can help me a bit.
I have a database (in sql-server) with, among other data, records for a few thousand clients, subscribers etc. One of the items retained for each is the email address.
So, of course I want to use these email addresses in my email-program. Also, I would like to give a small group of others access to these email addresses over the internet.

The database is part of specialised software (the nature of whjich seems not relevant here) and took me 2 years to build. I faced many hurdles ofcourse, but I would never have thought that this would be one of them. I thought that zillions of others would have the same need: wanting to give an email client access to email-addresses in a database; i thought I would be able to choose a component to fulfill this task from a long list ranging from freeware to big-company-ware.
NOT AT ALL!
in fact I can't find ANY component that's up to the task!

The problem is not the email clients, all email programs I know can search for email-addresses on remote servers. They look for LDAP servers; and pose a question in LDAP syntax.
So what I am looking for is a server which can expose my data using LDAP protocol.
Like I said: I thought that would be very easy to find, but now, after having posed this question on several forums, I get more and more desperate.
Can anyone point me to a component that does what I want?
And if not, would anyone be willing to explain to me how it can be that there are not millions of others who have the same question?

Yours sincerely,
hans

Hi, I have a similar problem where I need to make digital certificates (public keys) that are stored in a MS SQL database accessible to applications via LDAP. I too cannot understand why this sort of problem is not wide spread enough that someone (apart from openLDAP with back-sql) would have come up with a nice solution to this.

Is there a way to elegantly publish information from MS SQL to MSAD?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Clifford.
